Blocked by Elise Faber ~ Release Blitz & Review

Title: Blocked
Author: Elise Faber
Series: Gols Hockey novels (book 1)
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Sports Romance
Publisher: Blue Tulip Publishing

This is her shot.

Brit has the chance to make history by being the first female goalie to play for an NHL team, the San Francisco Gold. So, when she is introduced to Stefan, the Gold’s captain, she is determinedly not interested.

Stefan is sexy, charming, and has a publicly documented list of conquests a mile long. Brit is unwilling to risk mixing business with pleasure, even when that business is wrapped up in a six-foot-plus, gorgeously muscled package.

When management pushes Brit and Stefan together in an effort to gain good press for the beleaguered team, Brit finds that her carefully calculated disinterest doesn’t mask her body’s desires. The more she falls for Stefan, the more she risks her career.

Will she be able to have it all—a starting position and the heart of the captain? Or will she lose everything?

“I don’t really do the matching lingerie thing,” she said.
“Wh-what?”
With a sigh and an eye roll, she walked over to him. “I’m not super girlie.”
“Like fuck you’re not.” He was practically sitting on his hands, so he didn’t grab her.
Her lips curved up, and she stopped less than six inches from him. Close enough that her delicate feminine scent coated the air between them.
“You know, I’ve never felt so powerfully sexy before,” she said, stroking a single finger down his shirt, pressing the column of buttons lightly into his skin and setting him on fire, “but hearing your voice go all growly… Damn, I kind of like the way you make me feel, Barie.”
Sweet baby Jesus, she was a menace.
“Me too,” he agreed, even though Brit was making his balls turn permanently blue.
And apparently, she had no plans to stop because she plunked herself down in his lap, leaned close, and pressed her mouth to his.
There wasn’t any preamble. This was hunger, plain and simple.

Jewelz Review~
A fast paced emotional roller coaster is what you're in for when you pick up a copy of Blocked by Elise Faber. Some would think that the NHL isn't a place for women, but Brit Plantain fits right in. She's sassy, snarky, gutsy, and you can't help but fall in love with her - just like Gold team captain Stefan.

This is Brit's big chance - she has finally made it to the NHL and she plans to make her mark. However, as is common with the best laid plans, things happen that Brit couldn't have anticipated. One of which is sexy Stefan Barie. The physical chemistry between the two can't be denied, but can Brit risk her NHL dream by getting involved with Stefan? Soon she finds that she can't afford not to.

Blocked kept me turning pages with bleary eyes and a complete lack of sleep. I love it when a book pulls me in and won't let go. Brit and Stefan's story is full of twists and turns, secrets, passion, and sorrow. This is one book you won't want to put down until the end.

Not Always Happanstance by Rachael Anderson Tour

Not Always (1)
Not Always Happenstance Not Always Happenstance by Rachael Anderson Lani has lived in Hana, Hawaii for five years. She’s learned to surf, fish, dive, and manage her grandmother’s bed and breakfast. She’s also learned to take one day at a time the way it should be taken—relaxed and unrushed, savoring every moment. But, like a large wave on the brink of breaking, her life is about to crash out of control. A proposal of marriage, a conniving grandmother, a cryptic Asian woman, and a handsome guest, and suddenly everything calm begins to churn, everything clear becomes confused, and all that was normal segues into peculiar. As Lani struggles against the current to hold her ground, she realizes that she can either continue to fight and eventually lose, or take a take a leap of faith, hold her breath, and ride the wave wherever it takes her. ***This book is part of the Power of the Matchmaker series that features one recurring character—the match maker—but it is a STAND-ALONE novel.***

Jewelz Review~
I simply adored the story of Lani and Easton. Pearl, our Matchmaker, is at it again. She always manages to be in the right place at the right time and things just fall into place for her. Fate isn't as predictable for the couples she helps bring together. No, the have their freedom to choose - sometimes they heed Pearl's advice and sometimes the don't. Either way, they do have to follow their own conscience to find love and hold onto it.

Easton is an enigma - he's obviously got an agenda and seems to be fond of casting himself as man without any strings attached - including any to women. So when he finds himself truly falling in love with Lani, he's not quite sure how to handle it.

Lani for her part is read to settle down, but she doesn't want to leave her grandma in a bind with her B&B, at least that's what she tells herself and her new fiancé. After some sage words from Pearl and her grandma, and after spending time with Easton, she realizes that while she wants to settle down, Derek isn't the man she wants to settle down with.

A delightful story, Not Always Happenstance is sure to please anyone who love clean, contemporary romance.

Excerpt
"Stop!" a man shouts. He runs towards us. Two more appear behind him.
Jenna reaches a hand down. "Grab it!"
Colt takes hold and she easily lifts him out. They are all so strong.
"Go up, Sage,” Anthony says. “I've got these guys.”
He's holding the same dagger I'd had in my hand earlier.
"I'm not leaving you alone," I say.
"Three guys is nothing. I'll be fine. Go."
I look up toward where my brother sits waiting for me and then back at Anthony.
"Stop right there and we'll let you live," a guard says. He has a single spike sticking out of his otherwise bald head.
"Don't listen to him Sage," Anthony says. "You're too valuable. Just go before they capture Max again."
This makes me move. I scramble up the ladder. When I'm at the top, I shout down, "Come on! You can make it."
He stares up at me through the narrow opening and smiles. "Change the world," he says just as an invisible blast knocks him to the ground.

Review of Rescue Me by Lara Van Hulzen

Keith is a soldier with a wounded heart.
Torie’s secrets haunt her.
Can they trust love enough to mend what’s broken?

Torie Walker is a police officer with a past she’d like to stay hidden from. Staying at her best friend’s cabin in the mountains over Christmas is just what she needs. However, when a handsome cowboy saunters into her life, she takes the risk and trusts him with her secrets.

Keith Scott is a United States Marine. Home for the holidays, he intends to spend a quiet Christmas with his family. What he doesn’t plan on is Torie Walker, a woman who mends his heart and makes him want to love again.

Jewelz Review~
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Men of Honor series by Lara Van Hulzen. It is so refreshing to read love stories about men who have honor, who love God, who treat women with love and respect. The men in this series are the kind of me I want for my daughters. While fiction is a chance for escape, I really do enjoy reading a love story where the couple has the morals I believe in - a relationship that is passionate, but also clean.

Torie and Keith's story is amazing. They certainly are made for each other - they NEED each other. I love how they complement each other so well - how they both struggle with things from their past, yet are able to help each other see their worth. Both Torie and Keith come into the relationship needing to be "rescued" in different ways. Their past experiences have brought them to a point where their individual strengths and weaknesses make them a perfect match. Keith is able to help Torie and meet her needs in a way no one else ever could - and the same is true for Torie and how she's able to be the person that Keith needs.

A wonderful story.

Review ~ The Heir by Kiera Cass

Kiera Cass’s #1 New York Times bestselling Selection series has enchanted readers from the very first page. In this fourth romantic novel, follow IllĂ©a’s royal family into a whole new Selection—and find out what happens after happily ever after.
Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won Prince Maxon’s heart. Now the time has come for Princess Eadlyn to hold a Selection of her own. Eadlyn doesn’t expect anything like her parents’ fairy-tale love story...but as the competition begins, she may discover that finding her own happily ever after isn’t as impossible as she’s always thought.
A new generation of swoon-worthy characters and captivating romance awaits in the fourth book of the Selection series!

From School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up—Cass draws us back into the world of "The Selection" (HarperCollins) with this latest series installment. Taking place 20 years after The One (2014), this entry focuses on the lives of Queen America and King Maxon's four children, specifically Princess Eadlyn, who is the heir to the throne. The castes have officially been dissolved, but not without recurring issue, including riots among the people of Ilea. To distract the country and buy time for King Maxon and Queen America to formulate a plan to stop the riots, it's decided that another Selection will take place. Princess Eadlyn is initially not fond of the idea because she is not ready to get married; however she respects her parents' wishes, and wants to do right by her people. She has two caveats: a three-month commitment and an understanding that she may not find a husband in the end. Fans will simultaneously root for and despise Eadlyn. She is powerful, bossy, and vulnerable. While life looks perfect from the outside, readers learn that things are not what they seem. Physical fights break out among the Selected, and secrets are kept only to be revealed at the very end. The cliff-hanger conclusion sets the stage for future volumes. At times the work feels like a retelling of the first book, but with a different cast of characters. However, readers will enjoy seeing the courtship rituals through the eyes of Eadlyn, her date mishaps, and how things have evolved over two decades. VERDICT A great addition for collections that have a high demand for "The Selection" series.—Erin Holt, Williamson County Public Library, Franklin, TN

Chelz Review~
I was thrilled when I heard that Kiera Cass was continuing her Selection Series. I loved the first three books and could not wait to get my hands on The Heir. This story continues with the daughter of King Maxon and Queen America. The caste system has been removed but there continues to be problems in the country. As a way to buy some time to remedy the situation, the king and queen come to Princess Eadlyn and ask her to participate in her own Selection.

Eadlyn has no desire to marry and goes along with her parents request. Eadlyn is a strong-willed young adult. I enjoyed the story and could not believe I was left hanging on a cliff. Obviously I am anxious for the next edition in this fabulous story.

Pimpernel Blog Tour

Pimpernel Pimpernel by Sheralyn Pratt They seek him here; they seek him there. For centuries, the elite of the world have sought the Pimpernel everywhere. Some want to kill him, others want to hire him, but Jack Cavanaugh knows that the love/hate relationship comes with the job title.

At present, Jack is trying to dismantle an investment scheme centered in Las Vegas, but "trying" is the operative word. It's been a month since he put the face of the scheme behind bars, yet the scam is still going strong. As Jack tries to uncover who has stepped in as the new head, what miniscule evidence there is all seems to point him back to Claire Ramsey, an introverted PhD student studying at UNLV.

If ever there as an unlikely head of a investment scheme, Claire's it. She has a genius IQ, but from all Jack has seen, Claire’s intelligence is as much a blessing as a curse when paired up with her acute OCD. Claire can barely make conversation with the cute guy down the hall, which makes it hard to believe she could be the charismatic salesperson who is getting international businessmen to invest $5—50 million a pop.

So what is Jack missing? What is the real story behind Claire Ramsey? And once Jack learns it, will he be able to walk away?

~Excerpt~
The high-pitched scream from the other side of her apartment door shattered Claire’s thoughts.

“Daniel?” That shriek had been way too high to come out of a man.

“Help!” Daniel’s voice cried out from the other side of the door.

Claire unlocked the door and pushed it open, finding Daniel cowering on the couch in sailor-themed boxer briefs. Classical music played from his bedroom, indicating Daniel had been sewing before he ended up on the couch. On the ground between them lay the lounge robe Daniel had made in his fashion design class along with his house slippers. They looked like they’d been flung at random.

“Move!” he shrieked at her, stabbing his finger at the ground like a mad man. “Take the high ground and leave the door open. Maybe it will go back to the gates of hell, where it belongs!”

Claire followed the direction of his manic gesturing, freezing when her eyes locked on something the size of her fist with eight hairy legs. “Daniel? Please tell me that is a toy.”

“That. Is. NOT. A. Toy!”

The spider chose that moment to make its move—which happened to be sprinting her way.

Claire shrieked as Daniel motioned for her to join him on the couch. “High ground!”

Was he insane? She would have to leap over the tarantula to get to him. Why in the world would she do that when she could just run away and go to a hotel for the night?

“Voldemort?” a man’s voice said from behind her a split second before Claire backed into a male body blocking her retreat. Not only did Claire scream, but her body was suddenly possessed by an Olympic hurdler as she scampered across the living room and flung herself into Daniel’s arms on the couch.

“You found her!” a flagpole of a man from the doorway said as Claire latched onto Daniel, hiding her face against his shoulder. If she didn’t see the spider, maybe it would cease to exist.

“Found it?” Daniel scoffed. “That thing tried to duel me for my sandwich before I batted him off my kitchen table.”

Claire shuttered, only vaguely realizing that the shoulder she was hiding her face in was bare. I’ve never hugged a guy who was only wearing underwear before, she thought a moment before Daniel pulled her keys out of her hand and flung them at the ground to join his slippers and robe.

“Don’t chase it this way!” Daniel yelled at the other guy.

“Come on, Voldemort,” the spider guy cooed. “Let’s get you back into your habitat—Don’t run!”

Wait, it was running? Claire didn’t want to see that, yet something compelled her to turn and look anyway.

People always said that horrible things seemed to happen in slow motion, but Claire could have sworn the giant arachnid was coming at her in fast-forward mode. In a heartbeat, she had climbed up to ride piggyback on Daniel while he responded by flapping his hands in panic as if he could fan the thing away with a light breeze.

Not only did the spider keep running, it was sprinting like an arachnid with a plan—heading straight for the couch. When Daniel backed away, Claire felt her back thump into the wall. Before he could move again, she pushed off his back to stand on the back of the couch, dropping her purse when it threatened her balance. On the way down, it ended up in Daniel’s hands and he wasted no time finding items inside and tossing them at the spider while its owner moved in to act like a human shield.

“No!” the tall guy cried as he tried to corral the beast. “Don’t throw things at her. You might hurt her.”

Just then, Claire’s favorite lip gloss bounced off the hairy spider, stunning it.

That lip gloss was dead to her—not just the tube, the actual brand. She’d never be able to look at it the same again.

There's a magical power in stepping into new perspectives time and again, and seeing the world through different eyes. Few things increase empathy more than walking in another's shoes for 100,000 words or so. At least that seems to be the trend so far.
Some random things to know about Sheralyn: * She's a wanderer (geographically) * She can write a novel, but doesn't have the attention span for one page in a journal * She vehemently disagrees with Stephen King's stance that authors should not watch TV * She is pretty much incapable of sleeping before midnight
