Title: Highway Revenge
Author: Nadine Millard
Genre: Regency Romance
Publisher: Blue Tulip Publishing
I love a good Regency Romance, and Nadine Millard does a wonderful job with this genre. While there's always a bit of scandal, her books are never indecent. This latest installment mixed a little mystery with the romance and was a delight to read.
The story of Miss Evelyn Spencer is not a happy one. The poor girl was orphaned at only ten years of age and was subsequently sent to live with her uncle's family. She was always treated as less than which wound up being only the beginning of the cruelty she would face because of her uncle.
Lord Andrew Ashdon, future Earl of Downsbury, is less than thrilled to be spending time at Jonathan Spencer's estate in the country instead of carousing in Town - not much could be more boring than rusticating at a country estate with Jonathan's mousy cousin being the only eligible maiden in residence. Little does he know that things are about to get quite exciting at Spencer Park. Miss Spencer is most decidedly NOT mousy, and she is hiding something - though he's not quite sure what.
Revenge is typically messy business, but in the case of Miss Spencer, it is an adventure. Highway Revenge had me swooning, fearing for our heroine's safety, and then laughing out loud. Andrew and his Eve were fire and ice, but also perfectly matched - a delightful couple I easily fell in love with.
