Training Log
Vanguard: Elora Walker
Day: 278
Posting: Keystone, Earth’s End
Quad Commander: Marcus Vaughn
Vanguard Superior: Elias Adamsson

19:30
Reported for duty. Marcus informed us that we were on standard patrol in Breakers. Resisted the urge to complain about the boring routine of hitting the same town for the eleventh night in a row. I know my luck—that’s just asking for trouble.
20:15
Departed on foot for Breakers. Was still pretty warm so the long run in black uniform was unpleasant, but not unusual. Nothing else to report. It was still too light out for much of the local Dark Seeker population to grace us with their presence. Received a ‘gentle reminder’ from Marcus that they could all here my not-so-polite complaints through the mental link. Made a point to stop complaining about the heat and apologised. (Honestly, only mentioning it because he won’t and I was in the wrong.)
22:38
Encountered a single vampire. He was young, turned within the last fifty years at a guess. It was clear to us that he was hunting. We stalked and surrounded using the box formation, made much easier by our ability to communicate without speaking aloud. Vampire was captured by 23:02 with no injuries. He was logged in to command, who sent a detention vehicle for him (or it, whichever you prefer).
23:25
Returned to open patrol after transfer of the detained vampire. Water break at 00:00, but no other observations to report throughout the patrol.
06:30
Marcus ordered return to Keystone. A quiet night on patrol, but a long time to run for. The half hour run back to base was icing on the cake. Made a note to request (again) that vehicles be used to collect quads at the end of long patrols out here. Dehydration took out three more Vanguards last week. That makes almost twenty-five in the last month. It’s hot, we run for nine to ten hours, without a break, and the run back is an unnecessary and cruel punishment. Why can’t we just catch a bus?
07:45
Training session with Vanguard Leith. Focus was on new approaches towards tracking. Received another informal reprimand that making jokes during training wasn’t appropriate, even if the only people who could hear them were my quad and I. Apologised to Vanguard Leith, who shrugged because she hadn’t noticed. (Again, Marcus won’t say anything so I will.) Training was interesting and the teabag approach may be useful. For my own reference at a later date, the teabag approach is a method of distraction used to draw focus onto one player in the field to allow the others to flank and then tighten up around the Dark Seeker, while reducing the risk of confrontation.
09:00
Dinner followed by endurance training. Twelve mile run (because we don’t run enough out here) followed by weights and some yoga to stretch out the muscles. Then Marcus and I worked on my hand to hand techniques, with a focus on ensuring that I use my diminutive height to my advantage. Worked long enough and hard to enough to sustain minor injury to my left shoulder. Marcus ordered me to get checked out.
10:27
Reported to the infirmary. Suggested to the nurse they name a wing after me—not sure she saw the funny side. Doctor confirmed injury was just muscular and would heal with rest over a few days. After reading through my notes again, the Doctor then asked if I understood the concept of rest. I recall rolling my eyes but this wasn’t seen as reprimand-worthy, this time. I assured the doctor I would take it easier than usual. I tried to be convincing and was sent away with pain killers to take.
11:36
Bed. Signed off duty until later today. Call-back time is 17:15 due to dual quad mission.
15:45
Went for a run. Unable to sleep due to pain in shoulder, bad dreams and stress. Took the outer path which tracks around the wall. Presence was confirmed by Vanguards at all nine checkpoints. Did three laps before stopping in at the Sanctuary for some quiet reflection.
16:30
Breakfast with my quad. Marcus seemed worried about the mission, but I think he’s just over protective. Simon and Maria spent a lot of time making jokes at his expense, but there were no further reprimands (formal or otherwise).

I certify that this is a true and honest account:      Elora Walker

(PS: Mom, if you wanted to read my reports, you could have just asked. I would have sent them to you. No need to ask Marcus to do it for you. And seriously, he can’t keep a secret from me, so why did you try? Love you. E)

Review ~ Camp in the Shadow by Catherine Green

Chloe risked her life and her love to enter the Palace. With Seth lost, seemingly forever, Chloe is determined to fight the forces of the Adversary. But with evil lurking in unexpected places, will Chloe have the strength to defeat the darkness?

Seth will do anything to get Chloe back, even leave the world behind. As he finds his way in the Palace, he discovers that the battle is played on many levels. To win the battle, he might risk the prize.

But if Seth becomes the man she needs, will Chloe still be waiting?

Visit lifeinthepalacesaga.com to hear Seth's song, read deleted scenes, and follow Seth and Chloe on facebook.

Warning- The Palace Saga is a series about people who choose to leave the secular world and dedicate themselves to a higher power (aka live a life of faith.) It is not necessarily written for religious people. If the occasional swear word, allusion to pre-marital sex or double-entendre involving mashed potatoes is outside your comfort zone, then this is not the series for you.

Jewelz Review~
Oh my goodness - I LOVED this book! It's the best in the series so far. I am so in love with Chloe & Seth. They are such amazing characters - in this book you get to see them both grow as individuals. They go through challenges, they do hard things, and they become strong.

Chloe has changed so much since book 1, Life in the Palace. She has sacrificed, worked hard, finished the Quest, and become one of the People. She has tried to move on since she broke up with Seth, has even dated again, but despite her efforts, Seth is always there in the back of her mind. As Chloe navigates her new life following the Quest, she finds herself wanting to do more - to do more meaningful, active service. Which in and of itself is a good thing, but Chloe eventually learns that even good intentions can lead her down the wrong path if she's not vigilant.

Seth has also grown up a lot. When Chloe broke up with him, Seth literally spiraled out of control. His reaction was nothing short of self-destructive. Fortunately, he had friends who helped him begin the long road back to "normalcy" and he was influenced by some people with great wisdom. In Book 3, Seth has decided to attend "Boot Camp" where he will be immersed in the Way with the hopes of getting Chloe back by actively Serving and living his life according to the Way. Like Chloe, he learns that all things must happen in their time and according to the will of He Who Knows.

The journey that Chloe & Seth experience was wonderful to read. I loved learning with them and experiencing their joys and triumphs along with watching them learn and grow through their trials and difficulties. I will admit I would have liked some more detail about how things went down with the Crusaders at the end, but I am thrilled with how things tied up at the end. It couldn't have been more perfect! I can't wait to get my hands on book 4!

~I received an ebook copy in exchange for my review~

SYNOPSIS
Sometimes love needs a little push in the right direction.
Or a good and proper shove.
At least that’s what Dianna Trowl believes, profusely, or else she’d never have done what she did.
It would have been foolish, it would have been a scandal, if…it hadn’t of worked.
But it did, and sometimes the price to pay for a gentleman’s attention is worth every penny.
And convincing Lord Southridge to believe in love at first sight?
Priceless.

SYNOPSIS
What the duke wants….
Is not three young ladies for wards.
Nor is the responsibility for finding them a governess.
Thankfully that is delegated to his housekeeper, who he might add is blind as a bat.
That really could be the only excuse she has for hiring Carlotta.
Because Carlotta is far too beautiful to be a governess.
Temptress, yes.
Unable to restrain himself—because restraint is not one of his virtues, his reputation is testament of that fact—he finds the young governess far more spirited, opinionated and tempting than he is able to resist.
And of course, because he’s an idiot. He falls in love.
Never questioning whether she’d be a willing participant.
Of course life isn’t that easy, not even when you’re a bloody duke.
And after one meddling Lady Southridge,
Leads to two fiascos,
Three wards decide to take matters into their own hands.
Because what the duke wants…is simply to fall in love (preferably with the young woman in mind, falling in love too.)

SYNOPSIS
Tempting an Earl is not for the faint of heart.
Thank heavens Bethanny is anything but faint!
Now, honest, perhaps--too honest, but never faint!
After all, why flirt when you can tempt? And why the devil would a woman choose to swoon when she could be kissed?
Of course, she'd never try something so...honest, yes that was the word, honest on anyone but Lord Graham.
He's the only one she wants.
He alone has her heart.
And, he hadn’t a clue.
So it was only polite that she tell him.
Now, if only her blasted guardian, the Duke of Clairmont, would see Graham as more of a suitor than his old friend.
Because Graham is anything but old and most certainly not just a friend, not after that kiss, or that touch.
Though, if she were to lay all her cards on the table--which any gently bred woman ought--he wasn't completely aware it was her mouth, her lips, or her touch.
But that's beside the point now, isn't it?

His lips spread in a beaming smile that reached his wide brown eyes. And yet again she was hit with a sense of familiarity. DJ's eyes suddenly grew saucer wide and his smile was face splitting.

“Daddy!” he yelled, making her ears ring for a second. He wiggled vigorously in her arms, effectively slipping out of her hold. She’d barely lowered him to the ground when he pulled away and took off running behind her.

“DJ!” she yelled, turning to chase after him. She froze.

Tasha watched as DJ launched himself at a man and the stranger quickly caught him, coming out of his own stupor. She watched them speak, DJ so animatedly and the stranger cautious, with a ghost of a smile on his lips, though his eyes still held surprise. His eyes roamed DJ’s face questioningly and then it was like a light bulb went on in his head and he quickly turned to look at her. His eyes, his gaze on her made her gasp and she took a step back. God, she only wished she knew why, or remembered why! Even more, she wished she knew the revelation he’d just come upon because she sure as hell wanted to know what was going on. Why did she feel so hot under his gaze? Why didn’t she feel even the slightest twinge of fear as the stranger carried her son? And why did her son call him daddy? The stranger looked just as surprised as she did by DJ’s claim.

What was Tom keeping from her?

The moment the man took his first step to her, she suddenly felt the fear that was absent flood into her. She took several steps back until her back slammed into her SUV. The stranger stopped right in front of her and if it wasn’t for DJ he would have pressed up against her, she was sure of it.

“How’ve you been, Victoria Secret?” he asked with a breathy whisper.

“What?” she whizzed out. Why the hell did he make her feel so breathless and light-headed?

“It’s Daddy, Momma. Don’t worry, I already told him you don’t remember anything. You didn’t remember me until I reminded you, right Momma?”

Not looking away from the stranger’s swirly brown eyes she muttered, “Right, DJ.”

The stranger turned his head slightly toward her son, but he too never broke eye contact. “DJ, what’s that stand for?”

Little hands slapped onto his shadowed cheeks then forcefully turned his head. Tasha looked at DJ too.

“How do you not know that?” DJ accused. “It’s a nickname for Damien Junior or Damien James.”

Something flickered in the stranger's eyes before he smiled broadly making Tasha’s heart stutter. That’s where she knew the smile came from. And those swirly browns… she’d been looking at him for five minutes and now was when it hit her. She looked between the two and her breath caught in her throat—dear God!

No, no! DJ truly wasn’t Tom’s son.

“Of course I didn’t forget—Damien James Chan.”

DJ’s proud grin matched the strangers, “Just like you.”

“Yeah, just like me, except for one thing. James is your grandpa’s name, your momma’s daddy.”

Those words rang in Tasha’s ears and she felt herself slide down the SUV, her vision filling with dark spots and finally, complete darkness.

Release Day ~ The Consequence of Loving Colton by Rachel Van Dyken

It’s all fun and games…until someone’s heart is broken.

They’re not kids anymore, but Milo Caro is certain that Colton Mathews will only see her as his best friend’s little sister for the rest of their lives. After all, he made that clear the night before she left for college. But four years later, her brother is getting married and Colt’s the best man—and guess who is the best man’s last-minute date?

Milo vows to use the wedding to either claim the smoldering firefighter’s heart or douse this torch for good. When Max—her best friend from college, who may be carrying a torch of his own—crashes the party, they devise a plan to make Colt see what he’s missing. But after Colt catches on, he decides to cook up his own revenge.

Now it’s personal. Colt and Milo are at war, and between Max’s questionable acting methods, an unfortunate trip to jail, and a maniacal fiancée, what could possibly go right?

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Max gave me a tender shove. “We were fine until you started stepping on my foot and elbowing me!”
“You were hitting on my mom!”
“She’s a beautiful lady!” he argued.
“Oh, my gosh.” I fell into one of the chairs and moaned. “This is a catastrophe.”
“Not true.” Max shook his head. “You just have to be more believable. I mean, would it kill you to find me screw-worthy?”
“Screw-worthy? What does that even mean?”
“That’s it.” Max grabbed my hand and pulled me down the hall. “Where’s the bathroom?”
“Uh . . .” I pointed.
With a jerk he had me in the bathroom under the stairs and closed the door. Words and sounds were coming out of his mouth but I couldn’t make anything out. Max pushed me against the door and pointed his finger in my face. “I’m going to kiss you, damn it, and you’re going to like it. And I’m going to take off my shirt and you’re going to manhandle me, and you’re going to stop being so damn nervous or so help me God I’m going to bend you over that sofa in the living room and spank your sexy ass.”
Shocked, I was paralyzed in place. “Where did that come from?”
“Inside.” Max looked at me and smirked. “I have lots of feelings and I’m sick and tired of you looking at me like I don’t have a penis. I may be used to your innocence but for my own pride at least try to be attracted to me. Now close your damn eyes.”
“Stop cursing at me.”
“Stop being difficult! I’m trying to help you. And stop squirming. Shit, take a Xanax or something.”
“Max.” I closed my eyes and huffed. “This isn’t going to—”
My hand was on something hard.
I blinked my eyes open.
Since when did he have a six-pack?
I tilted my head, you know, to get a better look. His skin was really smooth but bumpy, each muscle defined so much that there was enough of a ridge for my hands to play with.
“Oh, look, he’s a man after all,” Max said, sounding bored. “I’m not your sexless friend. I’m not your damn brother. I’m not your gay friend. And I sure as hell am not thinking about anything right now except that your hands feel really good against my skin. So I’m going to kiss you, and you’re going to respond like the idea of my mouth on yours doesn’t make you want to cry—and you’ll like it.”
“I’ll like it,” I repeated.
“There’s my girl.” His eyes flashed, and then he was kissing me again, only this time his body was on fire as it pressed against me. I felt every ridge of his abs; the length of his body was beyond devastating.

Blog Tour - The Consequence of Loving Colton by Rachel Van Dyken

RELEASE DATE: APRIL 21, 2015

It’s all fun and games…until someone’s heart is broken.

They’re not kids anymore, but Milo Caro is certain that Colton Mathews will only see her as his best friend’s little sister for the rest of their lives. After all, he made that clear the night before she left for college. But four years later, her brother is getting married and Colt’s the best man—and guess who is the best man’s last-minute date?

When Max—her best friend from college, who may be carrying a torch of his own—crashes the party, they devise a plan to make Colt see what he’s missing. But after Colt catches on, he decides to cook up his own revenge.

Now it’s personal. Colt and Milo are at war, and between Max’s questionable acting methods, an unfortunate trip to jail, and a maniacal fiancée, what could possibly go right?

“Aw, sweetie.” Max laughed and pulled me in for a hug. I winced as my pounding head made contact with his chest. “Believe me, if we would have slept together, you would remember, even drunk, you would remember.”
“Someone’s cocky.”
“Confident.” He released me. “So are we upset or are we okay?”
“We?”
“Partners.” He winked. “For life. You and me, we’re a we.” He lifted the coffee to his lips. “Hey, that rhymed, how badass am I, after getting drunk last night?” He nodded his head. “Sharp as a tack.”
The coffee slid out of the cup and onto his hand.
Lots of cursing followed.
Then flailing.
“Yeah.” I took the coffee away. “Sharp as something.”
“So.” Max reached behind him and pulled out my diary. “Curious minds want to know, when you drew that picture of the house you and Colton were going to live in once you got married in front of the queen of England, did you purposefully draw the dog without a tail or were you just confused?”
“Give me that!” I lunged for the pink diary. “How the hell did you find it?”
Max held it above his head and took a sip of coffee. “People always hide interesting stuff under their mattresses, though I had you pinned for more of a signed ’N Sync poster, considering all the stupid hearts around JC Chasez’s face on the torn-up poster in your closet.” The freak had gone in my closet too? “This is just as good. Though I have to admit, I’m a bit disappointed that you chose Prince Harry to walk you down the aisle. Do I mean nothing to you?”
“I had a thing for royalty!” I shouted, my headache making a fierce pounding in my temples.
“Mmm.” Max set his coffee down but kept the diary above his head. “One last question.”
“If I answer, will you give it back so I can burn it?”

“I’ll give it back.” He held up his hand. “But burning this would be a crime. It’s like reality TV only worse, I seriously cried real tears and it wasn’t because the story was sad. Oh, and P.S. It took you five years to spell nightmare right, just thought I’d let you know.”
