Blog Tour- The Secret Bliss of Calliope Ipswich by Marcia Lynn McClure

secret bliss

The Secret Bliss of Calliope Ipswich by Marcia Lynn McClure

“Oh! Do link arms with me, Calliope,” Blanche whispered, her brown eyes widening with apprehension. She took Calliope’s arm, tightly linking it with her own. “The old Mulholland house still gives me the willies every time I walk past it. I hate to think on what might have gone on inside. It’s truly terrifyin’!” “Oh, don’t be silly, Blanche,” Calliope said, feigning calm. “Poor Prudence’s lunacy…it’s sad. And besides, her fiendish acts were not committed inside the house. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s just…it’s just a sad, empty building.” Calliope Ipswich felt the hypocrite, however, as an uncomfortable shiver of residual dread and unease shuttered down her spine, More than six months had passed since the All Hollow’s Eve when the dangerous state of Prudence Mulholland’s fracturing mind had been revealed to the townsfolk of Meadowlark Lake. And now, each time Calliope thought of poor Prudence and her family, not only did her heart ache for their family’s unhappy lot but a chill of lingering horror rippled through her being. In truth, at times Calliope wondered if it had all been simply a bad dream—a nightmare. But it hadn’t. It really had happened—all of it.

Tifferz Take~
So, this is the second book in a series, but it stands alone perfectly as well. This is Calliope's story and  is whimsical, filled with romantic kisses and a few twists along the way. I was getting a little worried towards the end as the pages were dwindling but Marcia worked her magic and crafted a perfect ending for Calliope! This was the perfect escape from life if you are looking for a sweet, fun and romantic read! I look forward to the last book in the series.

FYI- No sexual situations, it does contain a few swear words.

Jewelz Review~
The Secret Bliss of Callipoe Ipswich is everything I've come to expect and love from a Marcia Lynn McClure book. It's fun and sweet, full of wonderful kissing scenes, and a great way to escape from the daily grind. This is the second book in the series, but it is great as a stand-alone also. I love how Calliope is such a fun, tender-hearted young woman who loves to bring joy to those around her, and little Shay is nothing short of adorable! This is an easy read that will be perfect when you want a fun, romantic book to take your mind off the cares of the world.

FYI ~ no intimate scenes other than kissing, some mild language

Elicit by Rachel Van Dyken

~Blurb~
Cursed, numb, rejected, scorned, wicked, sinister, dark, twisted...my name is Tex Campisi and this is my legacy. I killed my father in cold blood and lost my soul right along with him.
I crave war more than peace, and I'm about to take my place in history as the youngest Capo dei Capi in the Cosa Nostra...that is until someone stops me, saves me from myself.

But the only person able to do that...is my best friends sister, Mo Abandanato, and she just ripped my heart out and asked me to hold it in my hands while she put bullets through it.

Im cursed so I did it.
I'm numb so I held it.
I'm wicked so I liked it.
I used the pain Mo caused as a catalyst to turn into my biggest nightmare--the five families greatest enemy. It's my turn to take a stand, knowing full well I'm going to lose my mind to the madness that is the American Mafia. I've always been told Blood is thicker than life. I wish I would have listened. Because regardless of who you love? You will betray. You will kill.
Blood Always Wins.
The only way out is death...yours.

Welcome to the Dark Side of the Family.

Tifferz Take~
Throughout this series I have always been curious about Tex and Mo. I was drawn into this story quickly and to put it mildly this story is intense. I felt Ms. Van Dyken did a wonderful job balancing the mafia and romance of this story. Not an easy thing to do. I must say you need to pay attention or you may miss important info. I felt like I was on a powerful roller coaster, in the dark not knowing when a surprise drop, twist or turn would come about. It was quite electrifying. Secrets, lots of secrets, betrayal, lies, forgiveness and the mafia all rolled into one.  It is true you hurt the ones you love the most. You see that in this story. It tears you up inside. When I was finished with the story I was so happy, as I was not sure how things would turn out. I had hope, but you never know. With all the bombs that got dropped in this book.  Is blood always thicker than water? Who would you choose...blood or water?

I did feel that Tex and Mo's relationship was missing something like the friendship and sharing. It felt very lusty and more physical. Yes they have been friends since they were children and know each other but, I just felt the friendship did not grow. They do have chemistry and a connection. Overall a stirring read! I look forward to the next mafia book.

Just FYI~ This book contains swearing, violence and sexual situations (I did skip most of the sexual situations as they were very detailed) This is an Adult book.

Jewelz Review~
I had read this entire series and it just keeps getting more intense. I love how the character are so well defined and yet there are surprises around every corner! I think that one of the most important underlying themes of this series is that you can't judge by appearances. You THINK you know what's going on with a character and why they do what they do. But, until you get inside that character's head and their past is laid out before you, you truly don't understand that character and his/her motivations. While this series is a work of fiction about the mafia (a world that the vast majority of readers have no real connection to) there are things we as readers can take from these books other than the amazing experience of getting lost in this fictional world. To me, that is truly good fiction - when I can find some life truth that makes me a better person in the real world.

I thoroughly enjoyed the roller coaster ride that was Elicit. Tex and Mo's relationship is so multi-faceted. Their loyalty to one another is nothing short of fierce. The other members of The Family and the drama that is par for the course with the mafia provides the perfect backdrop to test Tex & Mo's loyalty to each other. While their was a focus on their physical relationship, I do feel that it was a physical manifestation of their deep emotional connection. I am so excited for the coming books in this series!

FYI~This book does contain strong language, violence, and intimate scenes. It's an Adult book, not appropriate for teenagers IMO.

Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart by Beth Pattillo

Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart by Beth Pattillo
Claire Prescott is a sensible woman who believes in facts and figures, not fairy tales. But when she agrees to present a paper to a summer symposium at Oxford on her ailing sister's behalf, Claire finds herself thrown into an adventure with a gaggle of Jane Austen-loving women all on the lookout for their Mr. Darcy. Claire isn't looking for Mr. Anyone. She's been dating Neil -- a nice if a bit negligent -- sports fanatic. But when a tall, dark and dashing stranger crosses her path, will the staid Claire suddenly discover her inner romantic heroine? Her chance meeting with a mysterious woman who claims to have an early version of Austen's Pride and Prejudice -- in which Lizzie ends up with someone other than Fitzwilliam Darcy -- leads to an astounding discovery about the venerated author's own struggle to find the right hero for Lizzie Bennett. Neil's unexpected arrival in Oxford complicates Claire's journey to finding her own romantic lead. Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart is the story of a woman who finds that love isn't logical and that a true hero can appear in the most unexpected of places.

Chellz Review~
Austen lovers, this is a Fabulous read!!!!

Claire Prescott is always putting everyone's requests and needs above her own.  With this character trait, Claire goes to England for her sister, Missy, to attend an Oxford seminar on Pride & Prejudice.  Claire is to present Missy's paper while she is there.  Before Claire embarks on her trip across the pond, she finds herself unemployed and unsure of her relationship with her boyfriend, Neil.

Claire knows no one at this seminar, so she decides to tell a few white lies to those with whom she will associate.  One of the first people she meets is the dashing James Beaufort.  She is instantly attracted to him and surprised when he shows an interest in her.  While Claire is out on a walk one afternoon, she meets the elderly Harriet Dalrymple.  Claire finds herself at Harriet's cottage and reading the supposed manuscript of Jane Austen's First Impressions.  Secrecy is of utmost importance to Harriet and Claire soon finds herself in some difficult situations.

I was up until 2:00 reading this great story.  I loved the author's version of First Impressions!!!!!!!  This is a well thought out story with lots of twists.  If you enjoy Jane Austen at all, this is a delectable treat.  I look forward to reading Ms Pattillo's other stories.

Blog Tour: Summer in New York Collection by Various Authors

Fancy spending the summer in New York? Do the next best thing: read these sweet novellas set in New York. Hope you can help out!

A Timeless Romance Anthology: Summer in New York Collection
Title: Summer in New York Collection (A Timeless Romance Anthology)
Authors: Janette Rallison, Heather B. Moore, Luisa Perkins, Sarah M. Eden, Annette Lyon, and Lisa Mangum
Date of Publication: July 15, 2014
Genre: contemporary romance

In USA Today bestselling author Janette Rallison’s delightful novella, JOB HAZARDS, Lydia Robinson is posing as a prostitute. Undercover of course. Lydia’s job as a police officer hasn’t reeled in her prince charming yet. That is, until Harrison Aldridge, old high school flame, pulls up to the corner to rescue the fallen damsel. Lydia can’t exactly give Harrison the truth without blowing her cover, and it takes a series of mishaps and another whole set of misunderstandings before Lydia will even consider letting Harrison back into her life.

In Heather B. Moore’s enchanting novella, A TASTE OF SUN, Winona Grant embarks on a summer-long visit to NYC to house-sit for her great-aunt after a nasty break-up with her boyfriend Paul. But when her aunt commissions neighbor Steve Monti to tour Winona around, they strike a deal. Winona has too many deadlines to play tourist, and Steve is looking for a distraction from his looming gallery opening. So Steve goes on the tours by himself, and Winona reports back to her aunt as if she’d gone too. The longer this happens, the more Winona wants to change her mind. Seeing the city with Steve might be the perfect solution to forgetting about Paul.

In Luisa Perkins’s sweet romance novella, DULCE DE LECHE, Marisol is desperate for another nanny job after being unfairly fired from her previous position. She has only two more semesters of college, but she’s too proud to ask her wealthy parents for financial help. When her potential new employer, a single father working long hours as an anesthesiologist, decides she’s too young and pretty to hire, she practically begs him for the job. Darius finally agrees, and as he watches her work miracles with his Asperger’s son, he realizes there is much more to Marisol than he first believed.

In TAKE A CHANCE, a captivating story by Sarah M. Eden, Miguel Santos has a stopover in New York. When the announcement of delayed flights comes over the PA system, Miguel is looking at spending several hours at the airport. Determined to get comfortable for the long wait, he’s surprised when he spies a familiar face amongst the stranded passengers: Jane Schoonenburg, the last person he expected to see. Three months have passed since he asked Jane to marry him—three months of misery. And now he knows that he must talk to her, if only to find out why she broke his heart.

Annette Lyon’s entrancing novella, FIRSTS AND LASTS, begins with Dani’s last week in New York. She’s failed in her dreams to catch a break as an actress and is now ready to return home and dust herself off. As she visits the places on her final to-see list, she meets Mark, another New York City transplant with big dreams. Except Mark hasn’t given up on his. As they spend the day together, Dani realizes that even though she hasn’t hit the “big time” she might be living her dream after all. Only problem: she has a one-way ticket back home.

In Lisa Mangum’s whimsically titled story: &, Lucy is riding a wave of success at having found a bestselling novel in the slush pile at an exclusive New York publishing house. If only her personal life was storybook perfect as well. Her relationship with Devon is on the rocks, and even though she's been put in charge of the house while her boss is gone on business, Lucy isn't sure she's up to the task. It will take a chance encounter with a handsome wordsmith to help Lucy claim the courage that has always been a part of her heart.

Job Hazards, by Janette Rallison
Lydia Robinson is a policewomen and on a sting operation undercover. But her cover was a bit of a shocker and not what she was expecting. Anyways she does the job and while working undercover as a hooker her old boyfriend, Harrison from high school pulls up and boy do things get interesting!! One of my favorite parts is when Harrison takes Lydia to dinner and when the waiter asks if they want dessert she say no that she needs to be able to fit in her hooker clothes. I loved it. But, will misunderstandings from the past keep Harrison and Lydia apart? Read it to find out! A fun, flirty and memorable sweet romance.
Just FYI- This story has no swearing or sex in it.

A Taste of Sun, by Heather B. Moore
Winona Grant is house sitting for her aunt Genevieve for the summer. Winona’s meets Steve the first day she is headed to her aunt’s apartment after a run in with a women Winona thinks is his girlfriend. She has been hurt badly and wants nothing to do with me. Her aunt leaves a message for Steve  to take care of Winona and show her around. His first attempt is met with a door slammed in his face.  Will he give up? Or does he have a scheme to win her over? Day trips are planned but someone keeps no showing. Winona turns the tables on Steve when she actually shows up for a day trip. Will the friendship they find turn into more?  You must read it to find out. I like how strong and forward Winona becomes in this story. I think she needs that after her last relationship! This sweet romance hit just the right spot!
Just FYI- No swearing or sex in this book!

Dulce de Leche, by Luisa Perkins
Marisol just got out of a horrible nanny situation and is now looking for a new position. She is to interview with Dr. Darius Jackson and he shuts her down at first sight. We learn that since his divorce and having his two kids during the summer a younger nanny the summer before kept flirting. He just was not going to do that again. But, when he finds that Marisol is the only nanny available with special needs experience he changes his mind. Marisol is delighted but is receiving a lot  of pressure from her mom in Chile to date and not be someone else’s servant. I can see how a Latin parent would feel that way,  having lived in Chile and Panama. The boys Reese and Seth have settled in with Marisol and she is doing a wonderful job. I love when Dr. Jackson confronts her about her schooling and she goes off on him about her family and how they lived in Lo Barnechea. ( I lived in La Dehesa right next to Lo Barnechea when I lived in Santiago) I will admit it was so fun to have Chile referenced.  So, will a friendship be all that Dr. Jackson and Marisol share? Read it to find out. Such a witty, fun and delightful read.
Just FYI – No swearing or sex in this book!

Take a Chance, by Sarah M. Eden
Miguel is stuck in the airport and so is Jane the girl he wanted to marry. Should he approach her? Should he stay clear of her?  He goes for it and it is a bit awkward and have small talk. Then Miguel says how his parents miss her and Jane just shuts him down. So, Miguel has decieded he is going to win Jane back. He loves her and misses her. Will this work? How can he get her back. More flight delays and a meeting with some guys to tells his worries to. But how to get Jane back. He had to think and fast. What happens next is one of my favorite parts of the story. The hunt for the worst souvenir game. I had a smile on my face the whole time! Then Miguel get really brave and asks why things went wrong…..so will things work out? You must read it to find out. I found this read to be funny, fresh and full of surprises! You can really never go wrong with a story by Sara M. Eden. I have loved and cherished each story by her.
Just FYI- No sex or swearing in this book!

Firsts and Lasts, by Annette Lyon
Dani and Mark meet for the first time outside The Met museum. A picture taken of Dani and security coming to tell her she is too close to the painting is quite comical as Mark then proceeds to dare her to have another close look at the next painting. Then they are off to get the best hot dogs in New York and we will see if this chance meeting is meant to be more or not.   The conversation seems to flow like a steady stream. We find out that Dani is an actress that could not make it and Mark is a musician that could not make it. The clincher is that Dani is going home in ten days and giving up her dream. But, maybe just maybe Mark will give her another perspective?  Dani and Mark go through Dani’s first and last list before she leaves. So, will Dani still leave after making amazing memories with Mark? Will she leave NY with her dream unfinished? Read it to find out.
Just FYI- no sex or swearing in this read.

Jewelz Review ~

Job Hazards
This was a fun, sweet story about high school sweethearts getting a second chance at love. Lydia & Harrison had an unpleasant breakup at the end of high school. Six years have passed and they haven't seen or heard from one another until one night when Lydia is working the streets of New York as an undercover cop in a prositution sting. Poor Harrison thinks the girl he left behind has fallen to prostitution to make ends meet and so he tries to rescue her. What he gets is cuffed by New York's finest.

I really enjoyed this fun novella and getting a glimpse into Lydia & Harrison's lives. I'd love to read more about their budding relationship.

A Taste of Sun
Winona is not impressed with Steve. While he's definitely easy on the eyes, all she really knows is that he was called a "two-timer" by a woman right before he got on the elevator. Plus, she was coming off a bad break-up so the last thing she needed was to get involved with Steve. However, Winona's Aunt Genevieve had asked Steve to show her the sights of New York. Winona manages to skip out on their first two trips, but can't help but be intrigued as he continues to attempt to fulfill his commitment to her aunt. When Winona finally relents and accompanies him she finds that appearances can be deceiving and maybe not all men are jerks like her ex Paul was.

This was another quick and fun read that left me wanting more.

Dulce de Leche
Marisol is a hardworking young woman who has been working as a nanny to help finance her college degree. She is unexpectedly released from her employment of 3 years right before summer begins and finds herself frustrated and in desperate need of a new position so she can finish up her schooling. Darius is a single father who only has custody of his 2  boys during the summer. Being an anesthesiologist, he still needs a full-time nanny even though he cuts his work schedule down to the bare minimun during the boys' summer stay. When Marisol arrives at his door he immediately tells her she won't work out for him. His last nanny was a young college girl who was incessantly flirting and otherwise trying to catch his attention romantically - he didn't want a repeat of that. When he discovers Marisol is the only nanny available who has the required special needs background for his son, he reluctantly gives her a chance.

I enjoyed this cute story and how Marisol was able to soften up the strict rules that Darius had in place without coming across as critical or by overstepping her bounds. I truly appreciated the interactions she had with Reed, who has Aspergar's. I would have preferred this as a longer novel as I felt that in order for Darius and Marisol to come to the point they are at when the story ends, more detail and interaction was needed. Considering where the two began with their histories and their personal prejudices and perspectives I felt a lot more dialogue between the two &  personal introspection for each of them was needed.

Take a Chance
This was such a fun read! Poor Miguel - he's been miserable ever since his girlfriend turned down his marriage proposal 3 months earlier & now he's stuck in Laguardia airport due to weather delays. As fate would have it, his ex-girlfriend, Jane, was scheduled on the same flight bound for their home of Denver, Colorado. Miguel can't ignore fate knocking on the door and tries desperately to start a conversation with Jane and find out where things went wrong. Unbeknownst to Miguel, Jane has also been lonely the past 3 months, but she's not ready to address the sensitive topic of their breakup. Thanks to a little help from 5 cast members of the Broadway musical Mamma Mia, Miguel is able to help remind Jane of the fun times they had together, and show her that there are still memories to be made - but is she willing to "take a chance" on him?

I really enjoyed this quick read. It was full of fun and surprises, especially considering it takes place entirely in an airport terminal.

Firsts and Lasts
The story of Dani & Mark is a quick glimpse into the lives of two artists trying to make their way in the Big Apple. Dani has dreams of being on Broadway, and Mark has dreams of making it big in a symphony. Both have struggled to make ends meet with less than ideal jobs while auditioning and yet still the dream is out of reach. Their chance meeting at the MMA leads to a whirlwind of memorable experiences as they tackle Dani's list of places she needs to visit for the "first and last" time before she gives up her dream and heads back to Illinois.

I thoroughly enjoyed the adventures Dani & Mark had over the ten days Dani had remaining in New York and I loved how they connected on such a deep level. Wonderful quick read for a lazy afternoon.

&
Lucy is a girl after my own heart. She loves books and words - due to a little bit of luck she pitched a manuscript to the publisher she was interning for and it became a bestseller. That success led to her getting a full-time job as an assistant to Monica (the publisher). She has been dating Devon who works in sales for Baker Publishing also, but ever since Lucy's promotion things haven't been quite the same. While Monica is out of town she tasks Lucy with ordering invitations for a lavish event celebrating the book that Lucy helped find. It's after midnight when Lucy finally has the invitation ready to print, but her 24-hour Kinko's is closed for remodeling - what is she to do? Fortunately, Lucy was taught well by her grandfather that there is always and "and". You can always move beyond any problem you face simply by adding "and". Lucy does exactly that and finds a new printer "&". The dreamy Jesse who is co-owner of & is willing to handprint her invitations for her. As they get to know one another he teaches her yet another perspective on the word "and". It's amazing what one little word can do for someone.

I think this was my favorite in this anthology. It was a true delight to read and immerse myself in. Lucy is adorable & Jesse is the perfect guy to help smooth out her rough edges and help her inner beauty and strength shine.
