BLOG TOUR : Crossing the Ice by Jennifer Comeaux

Release date: August 3rd 2014
Purchase: Amazon

Synopsis via Goodreads:
Falling hard never felt so good.

Pair skaters Courtney and Mark have one shot left at their Olympic dream. They vow not to let anything get in their way, especially not Josh and Stephanie, the wealthy and talented brother and sister team.

The heart doesn’t always listen to reason, though...

The more time Courtney spends with sweet, shy Josh, the harder she falls for him. But they are on opposite sides of the competition, and their futures are headed in opposite directions. Will their friendship blossom into more or are their paths too different to cross?

Excerpt-
I turned to Josh with my arms folded and my head cocked to the side. “So, you’re an athlete, a dancer and a musician? If you tell me you’re a skilled artist, I’m gonna have to hate you.”
He laughed. “I can barely draw a stick figure.”
“Whew.” I swiped my hand across my forehead.
“Even if I was the next Picasso, though, I wouldn’t have told you.” He paused and held my gaze. “I don’t like the idea of you hating me.”

My stomach fluttered. Josh didn’t often make extended eye contact, but whenever he locked those sinfully blue eyes on mine, I became a mesmerized puddle of swoon.

Tifferz Take~

Courtney and Mark are skating partners.  They are working hard to get on the Olympic team. The Tucker’s are the competition. A run in reveals the Tuckers are making a move on Courtney and Mark literally. Courtney is dating Kyle and thinks she is ready to move the relationship ahead. Things actually go south and they break up.  Courtney and  Mark seem to be working a bit harder now that Josh and Stephanie Tucker are around. Courtney and Josh  become better acquainted. He comes to work a few times and is helping her with the Tango!  It seems Court is falling for Josh , but is the feeling mutual? We shall see. Stephanie on the other hand is … WOW I have no words for her. Every time she is mentioned I hold my breath as I never know what mean thing she is going to say or do.  Ms. Cassar is funny and call them as she see them! Josh and Court end up hiding the relationship they have because they fear the drama that will unfold from their skating partners. Once the cat is out of the bag. Drama! But, it is nice to have things out in the open. But may obstacles still need to be overcome.  Court gets some rejection she was not counting on and it stings. I was shocked at how things turned out at Nationals and the events that transpired after. This page turner kept me on the seat of my chair. How will things turn out?  You need to read this enchanting story that had me from page one to the last word read! I look forward to the next installment!!!  This story is a wonderful in the series but stands alone nicely.

Jewelz Review~
Crossing the Ice was a delightful read! I have always been a fan of figure skating & couples is perhaps my favorite. I remember watching Ice Castles repeatedly as a girl and then Cutting Edge as a teenager. Some of my all-time favorite movies! Crossing the Ice was a wonderful story that reminded me of my favorite ice skating movies and my obsession with the sport during the Winter Olympics.

I enjoyed watching Courtney and Josh's relationship unfold. It was so sweet that he had been crushing on her for years, but had never had the courage to ask her out. I have a sweet spot for shy guys. Their connection on the ice was the perfect complement to their sweet relationship. Of course there was appropriate drama coming from their skating partners and other outside forces. I can't imagine the stress and inner turmoil created by dating your competitor for a spot on the Olympic team. I was pleased with the realistic elements to the story - it wasn't all flowers & chocolates with everything going perfectly. I did get my happy ending though I wanted more, and hopefully we'll get another book that tells more of their story.

Just FYI – This does contain a sprinkling of swear words but no sex.

Blast- The Secret Bliss of Calliope Ipswich by Marcia Lynn McClure

secret blissThe Secret Bliss of Calliope Ipswich by Marcia Lynn McClure “Oh! Do link arms with me, Calliope,” Blanche whispered, her brown eyes widening with apprehension. She took Calliope’s arm, tightly linking it with her own. “The old Mulholland house still gives me the willies every time I walk past it. I hate to think on what might have gone on inside. It’s truly terrifyin’!” “Oh, don’t be silly, Blanche,” Calliope said, feigning calm. “Poor Prudence’s lunacy…it’s sad. And besides, her fiendish acts were not committed inside the house. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s just…it’s just a sad, empty building.” Calliope Ipswich felt the hypocrite, however, as an uncomfortable shiver of residual dread and unease shuttered down her spine, More than six months had passed since the All Hollow’s Eve when the dangerous state of Prudence Mulholland’s fracturing mind had been revealed to the townsfolk of Meadowlark Lake. And now, each time Calliope thought of poor Prudence and her family, not only did her heart ache for their family’s unhappy lot but a chill of lingering horror rippled through her being. In truth, at times Calliope wondered if it had all been simply a bad dream—a nightmare. But it hadn’t. It really had happened—all of it.

~EXCERPT~
A throaty laugh made him pause.
He knew that laugh.
The smile on his face suddenly felt more genuine. His gaze slid across the room when she laughed again. Her back was to him, but it was her…Utah. She held her cue stick and pointed at a corner pocket. “Watch ‘em and weep.”
She sunk the eight ball like it was her bitch and the guys around the table groaned. A short-haired blonde lifted her hand and made a grabby motion with her fingers. “Pay up!”
Utah laughed, laid her cue on the table, and grabbed the bottle of beer at her side. All the while Rick just watched the interplay. She wore tight jeans, a tucked in tank that hugged her waist in a mouth-watering way …over the ensemble was a jean jacket that he could easily picture draped over the handlebars of his motorcycle.
“I think we just got hustled,” one of the young college kids said as he shoved his hands in his wallet to pay his debt.
“I tried to warn you.”
Judy’s friend shoved the bills into her pocket faster than the waitress had. “Anyone else? Twenty buck minimum with a round of drinks.”
This might be fun.
Rick took a step forward and lifted his voice above the crowd. “A hundred bucks.”
Utah froze, but didn’t turn around. He wondered if she recognized his voice. Had she thought about him in the last year? With the exception of her brother’s divorce party, he hadn’t seen her…not outside of a wet dream or two.
The blonde swiveled her head like a snake to prey and her eyes did that sweeping thing that happened to him once in a while. Rick knew he wasn’t hard on the eyes, knew he filled out his shirt like a Marine should. His thick shoulders and neck screamed military or linebacker. He did play a little football in high school.
“Who the hell are you?” the blonde mumbled.
Rick chuckled.
Judy slowly turned and had to tilt her head back to look at him. “Green Eyes.”
“Hey, Utah.”
“You know this guy?” The blonde shoved next to Judy and nudged her arm.
God, she was even more adorable than he remembered. He didn’t let her eyes go, just matched her stare. A blush rose to her cheeks and a few freckles peeked through. Her snarky remark about his presence was a heartbeat away. He’d lay another hundred bucks on the table as a bet that the next words out of her mouth would shock everyone within earshot.
“Did the steroid train stop in town when I wasn’t looking?”
The blonde started to laugh.
Rick stepped even closer so barely an inch separated them. The smile never left his face. “I hear steroids shrink dicks.”
As if she couldn’t help herself, Judy glanced down and it was Rick’s turn to laugh. He brushed the edge of her body with his and removed the cue from the table. “What do ya say, Utah? I’ll even let you break. Ladies first and all that.”
Rick knew they were drawing a crowd, but the interplay between them matched the sparks that hovered over them like a damn rainbow, and he was powerless to care what anyone thought.
“A hundred bucks is steep, Judy.”
“S’okay, Meg…Rick’s a big talker. Besides, he doesn’t know what I’m capable of.”
Rick shook his head and clicked his tongue. “Now, now…don’t want to show all your cards.”
“She’s really good, dude,” the guy she’d relieved of twenty bucks said from across the table.
Rick lowered his voice. “Will you go easy on me, Babe?”
Judy regained some of her lost composure and pushed away from his personal space. “Not on your life. And I’m not your babe!”
We’ll see about that. He couldn’t stop smiling.

Jewelz Review~
Taken by Tuesday is the first book I've read in the Weekday Brides series by Catherine Bybee. I have read other books by her and enjoy her writing style. Even though I haven't YET read the other books in the series, I didn't feel as if I was jumping into the middle of a series. This book is great as a stand alone.

The story of Judy and Rick is intense. There's obvious attraction and chemistry between the two from the start. I love the dance they participate in that ultimately leads to Judy accepting to go on an official date with Rick. The push and pull between the two is fun to watch. Judy is independent and sassy while Rick is determined and oh so swoon-worthy.

I wasn't anticipating the suspense portion of the plot to be the driving force that determined so much in their relationship. But, though I didn't anticipate it, I did appreciate the effectiveness of it. Being as Rick is a retired Marine, it provided an oppotunity for Rick to truly be "in his element" and for Judy to truly recognize how important he is in her life.

Taken by Tuesday is a fast-paced, intense romantic suspense. Not your typical romantic chick-lit, it takes you on a fun romantic ride with some heart-racing detours along the way.

Content FYI~ language, intimacy, violence

Tifferz Take~
Taken by Tuesday is about Judy aka Utah, a girl about to graduate, and Rick aka green eyes,  a Marine and works as Mike’s security. Mike is Judy’s famous older brother and Meg is Judy’s best friend and roommate.  Meg and Judy are playing pool and winning. Rick wants in and ups the stakes. Fast forward to the after graduation fabulous party. Mike(Judy's brother) lets Judy and Meg use his house in LA till they get a place. Judy has an internship in LA all lined up.  Judy and Meg get a little to comfortable at Mike's and stop locking doors. Rick pays them a visit and this encounter was quite entertaining. Judy gets a wake up call when she starts her internship.  Dates are made and Judy is attacked. Rick steps in as a boyfriend and bodyguard for Judy.  Rick and Judy become joined at the hip. A murder of another girl a couple blocks from where Judy was attacked has everyone on edge. Will they find the attacker? Are they looking in the right places? Will Judy and Rick finally go on a proper date? You must read this thrilling romance to find out.  This is great as a stand alone book, but it is even better when you read all the previous books! I read this in one sitting.

Just FYI~ This book contains detailed violence (I got uncomfortable with a few scenes and had to skip them), a lot of swearing and detailed sexual situations  (much spicier than she her first books, I did skip some of them ).

Marsh has been writing and telling stories her entire life.  She is a music teacher, guest lecturer and runs Master Classes.  Her academic research is focused on the L’homme arme tradition, the Dead Sea Scrolls, chant transmission in the Medieval and Renaissance, and Gnostic and Kabbalah history.  Her passion for spirituality, mythology and developing her relationship with God are parts of her Rule of Life.  In her reading of the Bible and other extra-biblical texts however, she began to daydream about the characters, about how life was back then, and how cool it would have been to walk in the Garden with God.  Her stories weave a new mythology revolving around Genesis.

When she is not writing or teaching, she spends her days hanging out with five of the coolest boys on the planet and at night can be found doing completely ridiculous things like reading Joseph Campbell and Jane Austin and watching the same 3 movies on TV.

Elicit Release Day Blast

Cursed, numb, rejected, scorned, wicked, sinister, dark, twisted...my name is Tex Campisi and this is my legacy. I killed my father in cold blood and lost my soul right along with him.
I crave war more than peace, and I'm about to take my place in history as the youngest Capo dei Capi in the Cosa Nostra...that is until someone stops me, saves me from myself.

But the only person able to do that...is my best friends sister, Mo Abandanato, and she just ripped my heart out and asked me to hold it in my hands while she put bullets through it.

Im cursed so I did it.
I'm numb so I held it.
I'm wicked so I liked it.
I used the pain Mo caused as a catalyst to turn into my biggest nightmare--the five families greatest enemy. It's my turn to take a stand, knowing full well I'm going to lose my mind to the madness that is the American Mafia. I've always been told Blood is thicker than life. I wish I would have listened. Because regardless of who you love? You will betray. You will kill.

Blood Always Wins.

The only way out is death...yours.
Welcome to the Dark Side of the Family

~EXCERPT~
"Eight minutes where I'd rather time didn't exist." I whispered watching pain roll across his face in a wave. "Kiss me again."
With a soft exhale, he brushed his lips across mine, little feathery strokes that tempted me with promises of something more. He used his tongue to trace the outline of my lips before sliding inside, past my teeth, tasting every inch of me, giving me every inch he could of himself. Living in the moment, both of us knowing that it would soon be over.
"Seven." I whispered against his mouth.
"Go to school," he urged for a second time. "Make mistakes, Mo. Get in trouble, let Nixon find you sneaking wine into your backpack. Get sent to the Dean's office, make mistakes," he said again then licked his lips. "Let someone pick up the pieces of your broken heart, let someone fix what I destroyed."
"What if I want to drop out and hermit myself in my room?" I refused to look at him.
"That's not living, Mo." Tex cupped my face. "I have five minutes left with you, do you want me to use it to kiss you or lecture you on why I'm right?"
I grinned as a tear slid down my cheek. "Both."
His smile matched mine. "I forget how much you like being scolded."
"Only if the one scolding has a firm hand."
"Every last inch of me is firm and you know it." Tex tugged me into his lap. "School will distract you, it will give you a better future then guns and war, it will take your focus from tragedy to the future. Please, for me, Mo, please try to do normal."
"Normal." I shook my head. "Not sure I know what that word is."
"Normal," Tex repeated. "Making love to someone under a tree not because you have to say goodbye, but because it's the best way you can think to say hello."
My lower lip quivered.
"Normal." His voice was hoarse. "Marrying the love of your life not because her brother shoots you at point blank range--but because not marrying her would be a fate worse than death."
He was silent then added, "Three minutes."
I clenched his shirt with my hands and fought the urge to sob against his chest.
"Normal." Tex's voice was barely audible. "Going from country to country, traveling all over the world, not because you have a hit on you, but because you want to see the girl you love smile in every country God ever created."
I knew the time was ticking by, it seemed the less time we had the faster it went, I guess that's life.
I was looking at two more minutes, maybe less, with my lover, my friend, and all I could do was clench his shirt in my hands and twist, somehow willing him to stay on the ground rather than get up and walk towards certain death.
"Normal." Tex moved to his feet, helping me up. "Giving the woman you love two hours of your time, because you can't imagine spending your minutes, those precious seconds, any other way."
Tex kissed my mouth hard, nearly bruising my lips before stepping back and kissing my nose.
"Time's up," he said gruffly.
"We're no longer friends." I said it as a statement, not even a question.
"For two hours I was your lover, your friend, your everything." Tex looked away. "For the rest of eternity--I'm now your enemy."

Is she doing something wrong or is she just cursed? When Kyle Aldsworth enters the picture and sweeps her off her feet, Charlotte begins to hope that maybe she's not destined to be single forever. A senator’s son with political aspirations of his own, Kyle's wealthy, handsome, and in need of a wife. Will Charlotte be disappointed yet again, or will she finally be able to make a husband for herself?

~Excerpt ~
My apartment intercom buzzed. “Yes?” I answered.
“It’s Kyle Aldsworth.” He had a deep, rich voice in spite of the static that accompanied it.
“Great. I’ll be right down.” I ran to the window that overlooked the sidewalk in front of my apartment. I didn’t have a great angle. The door to our building was narrow and sat behind a wrought iron gate between Cuddy’s Clip Shop and Grandpa Guo’s Shoe Repair. Cuddy’s was two floors below us, and if guests were standing too close to the door, they were blocked from view by the barber pole attached to the side of the building.
Kyle stood a few feet from the door, allowing me a birds-eye view of dark, thick hair and a navy suit. If he looked up, I’d be able to see his face, which Jayne had compared to a clean-shaven Jake Gyllenhaal. Of course, if he looked up, he’d probably see I was spying out my window instead of coming to the door. I took one last look at my gray and white striped dress, grabbed my yellow cardigan, and headed down.
“You must be Charlotte,” he said when I opened the door. I smiled and looked up—yes up—at one of the most incredible faces I’d ever gone on a date with. Jayne had been wrong. He wasn’t a beardless Jake Gyllenhaal. He was Jake plus Cary Grant plus Captain VonTrapp, with a little of Jonny Lee Miller’s Mr. Knightley thrown in for good measure. Perhaps that sounds ridiculous, but you weren’t looking at him.
All intelligent thought abandoned me, leaving me unable to remember for sure what my name was.
What kind of game was Jayne playing with me? Kyle was much too beautiful for me. He’d have probably been too beautiful for Grace Kelly.
“You are Charlotte Emerson, right?”
How long had I been standing there gawping at him?
“Yes. I’m Charlotte.”
“Whew! You had me worried for a second. I’m Kyle. It’s good to meet you.” He extended his hand and shook mine. His hand was perfect—good size, warm and dry, nice grip without too much enthusiasm. He was a hand-shaking artist. Great. He’d stopped shaking my hand and I hadn’t relinquished my grip. I quickly withdrew mine and turned to lock the iron gate. My face burned, and I fidgeted with the key for a few extra seconds to give my cheeks a chance to return to their normally fair complexion.
Kyle was smiling when I turned back around. “My car’s around the corner.”

Tifferz Take~
I have adored every book I have read by Karey White so I was thrilled to read The Husband Maker. I was captivated within the first few pages and could not bring myself to put it down till  the last word was read. Ms. White has a gift for storytelling and I loved Charlotte, her twin Will and Angus and the camaraderie  they share. Charlotte is such an endearing women and has had a history of bad relationships. When she is set up with Kyle will he be the one? You must read it to find out. I was enchanted as the relationship progressed. I loved that the dates Kyle and Charlotte would go on did not always go as planned. They felt real to me. Kyle is such a gentleman and an overall good guy. I was shocked at the ending and I have to say I am still trying to wrap my head around it. I would have liked to know the name of who at the end. I am pretty sure I know but it would have been nice to have that confirmed. I need the next book in this series to get my answers! I would recommend this to anyone who like a sweet romance.

Jewelz Review~
I loved reading The Husband Maker! This was a wonderful, sweet romance about Charlotte - a sweet girl who has had some bad luck in the dating world. Her boss wants to set her up with Kyle, but she has reservations not only is he nine  years older than her, but he's rich. She finally gives in to the pressure and agrees to go out with him, convinced it will be a one-off. The  relationship that develops is at once unexpected yet realistic.

I was truly enamored with Charlotte, Kyle, Angus and their families. The "therapy" tradition is one that I think many women can relate to and a part of the story I really enjoyed. I would have preferred a little more closure when the book came to a close, but I anticipate that in the next book. Hopefully we won't be waiting too long before we're able to read The Match Maker. Overall, I really enjoyed this book - the relationship was not a simple fairy tale romance as our hero & heroine  have flaws and they work hard to address complications that arise. It was refreshing to read a story about realistic people who face challenges head-on with thought and consideration, not only for their own needs, but for the needs of the one they love too.

Just FYI~ This has no swearing or sexual situations.
