Recalculating Route Blog Tour & Giveaway

Recalculating Route-

Traveling companions. That’s how it began. She was a widow, alone after a long and happy marriage, struggling to rebuild around the hole in the center of her life. He was at loose ends after retiring from a successful business and a string of unsuccessful marriages. All they had in common were empty days to fill and an urge to tour the open road, but as they travel side-by-side, their feelings grow. Serendipity brought them together, but every journey has to end. What happens when they reach the end of the road?

Excerpt from Recalculating Route by Beth Carpenter

Marsha leaned forward to pick up the silver frame holding their wedding photo. Eric managed to look outrageously handsome even in the silly white rented tuxedo she had chosen. What was she thinking? She smiled broadly in the picture, her poufy veil framing her hair, arranged in shiny wings on either side of her forehead. They looked much too
young to be making solemn promises. They had kept their vows, though, their devotion growing throughout their marriage. Good times and bad, they had stayed together.

“Hello, my love.” She reached to touch his face in the picture. “We had a good time, didn’t we? We promised ourselves to one another until death do us part.” She sighed. “And even then, I didn’t want to let go. But Eric, I think it’s time.” She reached for a tissue from the coffee table and dabbed her eyes. “I love him, Eric. Not the same as I love you, but a different love, just as special. I wish you could meet him. You’d like each other. I can picture the two of you, sitting under the trees in the back yard with a beer in your hand, swapping stories.”

She laughed. “Ben would love your story about Nicky Flynn, trying to get out of a spelling test by putting an Alka Selzer in his mouth to convince the teacher he was having a seizure. I remember you had to send him out of your office to wait because you could hardly keep from laughing out loud when you tried to discipline him. I’ll try to tell Ben that story, but you tell it better.”

She traced the curving lines in the picture frame. “I’ll always love you, Eric.” Her face began to grow hot. She sighed, set down the picture, and walked out on the back porch to let the breeze soothe the heat from her skin as the hot flash continued.

Lindy followed her out. The climbing rose Eric had planted grew lushly over the trellis at the western edge of the porch, blocking the sun while letting the breeze through, making the porch a shady oasis. Every year, just before Mother’s Day, it covered itself with clusters of apricot buds that opened into extravagant sprays of pale golden roses.
She noticed something yellow on the trellis, and frowned. Once, spider mites had almost decimated the rose, leaving the leaves pale and spotted, but Eric had managed to save it. She went closer to examine the problem.

A single yellow rose blossomed bravely. It shouldn’t have been there, not in September. This rose always bloomed in May, and only in May. Yet there it was: a yellow flower. Each tissue-thin petal was a work of art, deep yellow at the base, shading to a paler tint and almost white along the curving tip, the innermost petals hugging the shaggy stamens at the center of the blossom.

She bent to inhale the lemony-sweet fragrance of this miracle, her hot flash forgotten. A single tear fell onto the leaves of the rose, but this time it was a tear of gratitude, that she should experience so much love in a lifetime.

Blog Tour - Rocky Road by Josi S. Kilpack

rocky road

Rocky Road
Rocky Road

It was supposed to be a girls’ weekend in scenic St. George, Utah that would include shopping, trying out the local cuisine, and participating in a breast cancer fundraiser. The fact that one of the organizers of the fundraising event, a local doctor, disappeared two months ago was not supposed to be Sadie’s problem. In fact, she refuses to participate in the grassroots investigation her friend Caro, and Caro’s cousin, Tess, have put together prior to her arrival. But then she meets the ex-wife of the missing doctor. How could she not ask a few questions . . . that lead to a few more questions . . . that lead to a small town and yet even more questions. Before she knows it, Sadie is in the middle of yet another murder investigation and trying to piece together a convoluted trail of good intentions, hidden motivations, and philanthropy turned big business.

Jewelz Review~
I'll admit, this is the first of the Culinary Mysteries that I have read. I have friends who have been singing the praises of Josi Kilpack & her delectable books for some time now, but I just didn't have a chance to read them. I am so very glad I finally got the opportunity to read one of these books! Rocky Road was a delightful mystery with scrumptious recipes sprinkled throughout.

While I find myself reading a lot of romantic books these days, my first real love of reading began with mysteries - the Trixie Beldon and Nancy Drew series in particular. So, it was nice to pick up a book again that had a mystery to be solved. While Rocky Road is part of a series, it stands on its own well. I knew that there was history that I didn't know about Sophie, but it didn't feel like I was missing vital information. I do want to go back and read the other books though, so I can fill in those holes!

I thought that Ms Kilpack did a great job creating a realistic situation that required investigative work. Granted, I don't know that the police would truly give someone like Sophie permission to go digging, but it made for a good story. Fiction is an escape for me - and if the author writes in a way that I am able to enjoy the stroy without pausing & thinking "wait a second, that doesn't make sense" then I'm happy. That's the case with Rocky Road. I was able to immerse myself in the mystery of what had truly happened to Dr. Hendricks and then watch in awe as all the little pieces fell into place, along with a few moments that caught me by surprise.

If you like mysteries - this is a fun, enjoyable read & I highly recommend it :)

Chelz Review~
This was my first time reading a Josi Kilpack book.  My mother-in-law LOVES them!!!  However, I was hesitant in reading this book because I am not a fan of mysteries.  I was pleasantly surprised with a nice easy read and an enjoyable story.  The recipes spread throughout the story are a great touch.  (I will have to try the Cafe Rio recipes for sure)  I thought the characters were well though out and believable.  I really liked the part of the story with Sadie having to deal with her friendship with Caro, and the friendship of Caro, with Caro's cousin Tess.   This was very realistic drama that is more common and is rarely infused into a story.  There is not always a "happily ever after" in friendships.

It all started one morning when my dad called and told me about an experience he had in the middle of the night. Unable to sleep his mind began to wander until it stumbled upon the fascinating concept of this story. Flashes of memories from the past related to paranormal experiences from his teen years, swirled around the story line and my dad felt as though he was onto something truly unique!
Quickly, he woke up his wife and began to tell her about this idea. While discussing it with her, the room lit up and they both agreed that was a sure sign that this story needed to be written. As soon as the sun was up he called me and told me all about it. He asked me if I’d be interested in writing the story since I was already a published author. The story concept was so enthralling that I couldn’t resist and I agreed.
Later that month during a family Christmas party, my dad and I stepped aside and laid out the entire outline for the book – which would be a trilogy series. He pointed out key experiences that had happened to him and people we knew that he wanted to incorporate into the book. I as well pulled from documented experiences of several near death encounters. Since NDE books make up ninety percent of my personal library, I had a wealth of insight to contribute to the story. In an instant the characters were born and from that day forward it truly felt as though these characters had become a part of our lives.
Quickly, I went to work at writing the book, sending each chapter to my dad and his wife who were anxiously waiting with popcorn in hand. Just like a TV series, they got one episode per week and couldn’t wait until the next chapter arrived. It was the highlight of each week. Never before had a story evoked so much emotion and anticipation from any of us. It truly was an adventure we’ll never forget!
When the story was finally complete, we knew we had something monumental – something that would forever leave an imprint in modern day fiction. I thank my dad, Roger D. Willardson for asking me to be a part of this exciting project. It is our hope that you the reader, enjoy the experience you are about to become a part of; an experience that will open your eyes to a world of incredible possibilities. Through the very real events of many who have bravely shared, a story has been born to take you on a journey, you’ll never forget!

Letters in the Moonlight of Taj Mahal by J. Adams

Blurb~
Lyla Kelly and Marc Hosseini have never met. The forty-seven-year-old widow and mother of
grown twin boys doesn't know what to think when she begins receiving letters from the son of an old
friend. She never fathomed that Marc, twelve years her junior, could ever be interested in someone like
her, especially since they have never even seen one another. Nor does she count on the passion that his
mere words invoke in her.
Go with Lyla and Marc on their journey of discovery, and watch a surprisingly-powerful love
bloom between them–a love strong enough to rival the undying adoration that inspired the building of
one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The beautiful shrine, Taj Mahal.

Tifferz Take~
I was so excited to read Letters in the Moonlight of Taj Mahal because I have actually been to the Taj Mahal and it is breathtaking, to put it mildly. Honestly, I would have liked a little more of the story of India and what they did. But that is me being selfish!  I got a good laugh out of seeing Lyla speed date due to her twin sons setting the night up. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the letters and emails Marc and Lyla shared. Normally that style of writing makes me want to shut the book. I guess J. Adams has a way with words. I really felt the connection between Lyla and Marc. This is a quick read that gave me the pick me up I needed. I do love the happily ever after. I will as always, be looking for more from J. Adams.

Just FYI~ No sexual content, but does contain two swear words.

New Release ~ Set to Love by Jennifer Rae Gravely

Set to Love, a volleyball romance by Jennifer Rae Gravely

The championship is her dearest desire, not love.
Recently appointed girls’ volleyball coach at Keowee High School, Randi Sly spends the night with rival coach Blake Steele after getting sick from drinking too much wine. Rumors swirl as the two battle for the State crown.

Facebook party on Monday, September 30th to celebrate the release of Set to Love. Stop in to say hello, eat virtual cake, and win some great prizes. https://www.facebook.com/events/511183235623155/

Born in Ohio but raised in Pickens, SC, I graduated from Converse College with a triple major in history, politics, and English before earning my master’s degree in education. Returning to my high school alma mater to teach English and to coach volleyball, my teams won four state championships and six upper state titles in ten years. I live with my husband, daughter, seven beagles, and one cat. Set to Love is the second romance published by Astraea Press featuring the fictional Southern town of Keowee.

Read on for a sneak peek from Set to Love

Tip One

Be confident: The game of volleyball is not only physical but also psychological.

Directly in his path, he spotted Randi Sly fumbling in her purse, not paying attention to the curb in front of her. “Randi,” he called. “Watch out!” He lunged forward, catching her as she stumbled. For a brief moment as she filled his arms, he thought of Jenna.

“What are you doing?” she squealed, pulling away. “If you hadn’t called my name, I wouldn’t have tripped.” Randi narrowed her eyes as she ran her hands down her thighs, straightening the clingy cloth that outlined the shapeliness of her long legs.

“No, if I hadn’t called your name and caught you, you would’ve broken your ankle. Some thanks for a noble deed done.”

“I’m not a damsel you have to save.” She brushed her long, shiny brown hair from her shoulders. Even in high heels, she had to look up at him. Blake liked tall woman best and appreciated an athletic but shapely build. Randi obviously worked out on a regular basis, and she was every bit as tall as Jenna.

Blake laughed aloud as he mentally pushed the thought of Jenna out of his head. He needed to quit comparing everyone to her. “You’re one of those.”

“What does that mean?” She squared her shoulders, showing with her body language a complete dislike of him. No doubt she didn’t care for him calling her team out at the meeting. Her eyes blazed like a blue flame in the growing darkness of the night.

“Independent female, the kind that’s a bit self-righteous.” Blake liked a feisty girl. That’s what drew him to Jenna last year when she moved to the area.

Randi huffed, as he knew she would. He liked to play the game, but this one he suspected was pretty good at her job or else she wouldn’t have landed such a prestigious position. Keowee was a county and region rival of his school Saluda, the two volleyball powerhouses splitting the last decade’s state championships. He needed to gain an edge.

“Don’t underestimate me, Blake.”

He inclined his head in her direction. “Wouldn’t dream of it.” With that, he continued to his car thinking how he definitely needed to keep his eye on Randi Sly.

Blog Tour - A Good Lookin Man by Marcia Lynn McClure

A Good-Lookin' Man by Marcia Lynn McClure (novella)
However, in an instant—in less than a breath or the bat of an eyelid—the elusive pepper spray hiding somewhere in her purse was all but forgotten. For standing before her—right there before her, not three feet away—was the best-looking, most gorgeous, handsomest man she had ever seen in all her life! “No, seriously,” she thought out loud with lingering bewilderment at how perfectly stunning the man standing before her was, wearing a worn pair of Levi’s, dusty cowboy boots, and a short-sleeved, plaid-print, snap-up shirt that hung open, revealing a bronzed, perfectly sculpted torso that was simply a mass of muscles. She was so unsettled by the man’s appearance that she wasn’t sure whether she was whispering aloud to herself or her car. Either way, the man asked, “Beg your pardon, ma’am?” “Oh…oh, nothing,” Fairlee said as she began rummaging in her purse again. But the man’s presence and appearance had entirely rattled her. As her awe-inspired brain obviously quit sending out instructions to the rest of her body, Fairlee felt her purse slip from her hands—watched in humiliated dismay as its contents tumbled out and scattered over the shoulder of the road.

Chelz Review~
This is a wonderful Marcia Lynn McClure story!!!!  Fairlee is such a fun heroine.  I love that she talks out-loud to herself and that she finds calm in house chores.  Lash is the perfect hero and MLM man.  He is a perfect gentleman and happens to have his shirt unbuttoned alot, which reveals a perfect torso.  I need to read a MLM book at least once a month to get my fill of good looking men and amazing kissing scenes.  My favorite part of A Good Looking Man is the water fight.  I wish I was carefree enough to enjoy one of those.  This story is the perfect length for a quiet afternoon.  I hope you enjoy this sweet story as much as I did.

Tifferz Take~
A Good-Looking Man is a sweet, fun, no drama love story. I enjoyed this one summer morning before the kids got up. It was a delightful treat. Sometimes I just want a love story without all the misunderstanding and jealousy. I have to say that my favorite part was the water fight. It was fun and silly. I enjoyed getting to know Lash and Fairlee. I liked Uncle Bean and Aunt Pearl they are a riot. They really enhance the story. So, if you need an escape from life and want a sweet romance, check out A Good-Looking Man.

I will say that I think Marcia needs to find a new editor.

Jewelz Review~
This is a typical Marcia Lynn McClure book - full of laughter, sweet romance, and one "good lookin' man". Fairlee is hilarious - the things that come out of that girl's mouth! Lash is a ruggedly handsome veterinarian who rescues Fairlee when her car breaks down 5 miles from her Aunt & Uncle's home. He can't help but be affected by Fairlee. Aunt Pearl & Uncle Bean are a riot to boot. If you want a fun, light-hearted read this definitely fits the bill.

Just FYI~ This does not contain any swearing or sex.

The Enchanted Blog Tour

Blurb~
Forced by his father into a marriage he didn’t want, Prince Alan soon finds that his bride isn’t the sweet, submissive creature he expected. Morgane has the heart of a dragon and beauty beyond compare, but she isn’t thrilled about the marriage either. When black treachery threatens the kingdom, Morgane and Alan embark on a perilous journey that has an excellent chance of ending in failure and death for them and all of their people.

Tifferz Take~
The Enchanted is a heartwarming fantasy romance. King Bowdyn is a hard man his wife Queen Donella tries to be hard but underneath is good and kind. I was surprised by her story she shares with Prince Alan. Alan  is a great guy and not hard like King Bowdyn. King Bowdyn wants to teach his son a lesson so he is sent away for a year. King Bowdyn arranges a marriage for Prince Alan to Princess Morgane. Princess Morgane come into this marriage with fear and many issues. Prince Alan has some issues as well. Do they work them out? Evil comes to the kingdom, will they prevail against it? Prince Alan and Morgane are in danger and enchanters are about. They are transported to another kingdom and must fight for their lives and break and enchantment. Can they do it? when they get home what will they find?  So, will Prince Alan and Morgane fall in love? I really like the mystery , action and watching the relationship of Alan and Morgane progress! It was so sweet. A wonderful story that has swept into my heart. I will be remembering this one for a long time and reading it again.

I did find a few things that bugged me...for example The king has a scavenger hunt and then the princess is missing but never calls of the scavenger hunt it just kind of left me hanging. Alan also suddenly knew exactly where the pool was when he did not know before. Alan rescues some of his fathers warriors and then  suddenly has a bow and we don't know how he got it. These are not huge things but I noticed them.

Just Fyi~ This story does not contain any swearing or sex.
