Blurb~
Amanda turned down Preston's prom invitation in front of her entire high school, but that was eight years ago.

Somehow, her past mistakes always have a way of catching up with her, and making her pay. Amanda's sarcastic wit mixed with Preston's insufferable ego make sparks fly in more than one way.

Preston, against his better judgment can't fight the desire to get under Amanda's skin and mercilessly tease her, but when that teasing becomes flirting, and flirting becomes something dangerously more, neither of them are prepared for the adventure that follows.

For Aria Darwin, playing with fire has become a way of life, not because her powers have finally been unearthed, but because she’s drawn to the dormant light sparking behind Clay’s eyes. With every move towards that light, she risks her title as Queen. Even though she’s terrified of getting burned by the backdraft, Aria can’t seem to ignore the tempered blaze buried in her heart.

After a disturbing vision, Aria withholds a deadly secret in order to protect her Kingdom. Her people, her friends, not even Clay knows the truth as she makes peace with her destiny. Aria is looking to the future but the past keeps haunting her dreams, and she fears that the cost to defeat her enemy will be a much greater sacrifice than her soul.

The story continues and we see Ari struggle to adjust to the sealment and not remembering the moment. I think I would feel the same frustration Ari feels. I totally want Ari's teleportation skill. The Karmic Connection by Libby Mercer

What is the universe up to?

Guilty of nothing other than working too much - or so they say - Adam Stowe is dumped at a "wellness center" in the middle of nowhere by a couple of concerned colleagues. When he meets Lorraine, the beautiful and bewitching yoga instructor, his spirits start to lift, but once he discovers what a flighty fruitcake she is, they drop back down to subterranean levels.

For Lorraine Jameson, Luna Wellness Center was a beacon of solace when her life was falling apart, and she can't stand the way Adam's toxic energy is poisoning the peace. He embodies everything negative about the life she discarded eighteen months ago. Despite being fiercely attracted to the arrogant man, she's determined not to let Adam Stowe anywhere near her heart.

Adam and Lorraine couldn't be more unsuitable as a potential couple... so why is the universe so dead set on uniting these two?
The Karmic Connection is a different kind of love story with a cast of quirky characters and a mystical, magical New Age-y flavor.

Tifferz Take~
As it states in the blurb this is a bit different and quirky. I liked it as it was a light read yet we still get to see why Adam has toxic energy. Even though it is a bit uncomfortable for him. We also get to find out why Lorraine has become a yoga instructor and what she gave up to do so. It was fun to see Adam and Lorraine try to avoid the connection that they have. Adam learns a few things about himself and not to be so quick to judge people. I felt the characters were well developed and the plot fun! This is a sweet romance with some laughs. I was left with a smile on my face at the end of this book!

Just FYI~ this read does not have any swearing or sex.

The Secret Trinity: Ignite (Fae-Witch Trilogy)

Book 2
Click on the image to go to Amazon for purchase!

If time heals all wounds, then Aria Darwin’s clock has stopped. No amount of magic elixir can repair a broken heart. In the aftermath of untruths and tainted love, Aria is unsure if she will ever recover to see the light of her destiny.

Now living in the enchanted city of DraĆochta, along with her two best friends, Aria struggles to find her place in the Kingdom. A plan must be set to ensure the safety of her people, but how can they believe in her if she can’t believe in herself.

With the assistance of her Guard Keeper, Clay, she slowly develops her powers, but will she be strong enough to destroy her enemy? Will she ever remember what was once ignited in her soul, and the real question is will she run or will she fight?

Tifferz Take~
Book two in The Secret Trinity: Ignite is so freaking amazing. Most of the story takes place in DraĆochta. Which is a amazing place. My favorite spot is the tree house.  The adventure continues and we see how things have changed in a short amount of time. What is Liam really up to? We find out more. Clay and Ari. The sparks fly. I found the sealment so cool. Soul keepers are very important. I also like Grant and Morgan's relationship.  We find out more about Famorii and Adam. We see some black magic and some unique abilities! Ms. Bernel has a magical gift of writing! I just can't get enough of this series. I am off to read book three. This does contain some swearing sprinkled throughout. No sex.

Reviews:

-”The book was well written and very imaginative. I literally did not put my kindle down until I finished the second book of the trilogy… I love that each character has a very distinct personality; yet I cannot predict what will happen next. I would recommend this book, as well as the first, to anyone with a taste for fantasy.” -C.C. Lynch on Amazon.com

-”I loved the way the characters were developed in “Ignite” a way that remained consistent with their individual personalities in “Unearth”. I felt their emotions as I read, their anger, confusion, pain, joy, sadness, and fear…very compelling. I love that I’m still not able to guess what’s going to happen in this trilogy–the twists and turns continue. I cannot wait to find out what happens with Ari and her friends in Book 3!” -SuspenseFictionFan on Amazon.com

The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken

The Bet
Blurb~

"I have a proposition for you..."
Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus's mouth. Instead, she made a deal with the devil in hopes of putting her past behind her once and for all.
Four days.
She could do four days!
But she wasn't counting on Jake’s older brother Travis being there to witness their farce of an engagement.
One thing is for certain.
One brother is right for her.
One wants a lifetime.
And one is in league with the devil.
She should have gotten Jake’s signature in blood.

Tifferz Take~
So, this is my first New Adult Contemporary Romance and I thought it was brilliantly written and gave me pause to think. It amazes me how Ms. Van Dyken can write so many different genres and do it so well. I honestly don't know many authors who can switch genres flawlessly! This is so different from any of her other stories. This story has grit to it. Choices are made by people that truly change and shape the future that they did not expect. I found it is also good to reflect and learn from the past but to move forward and be the best that you can be everyday. Jake, Kacey, Travis and Grandma felt like friends of mine and I grew to love each of them for who they have become. Grandma has lots of spunks and had me laughing so hard my tummy hurt. Jake had me loving and hating him and is not without his faults. Travis had me wanting to strangle him and then hug him. Ultimately I  found myself loving him. Kacey is a good girl not without her faults and flaws. The storyline was so fun and the dialog is to die for. I loved Jake and Travis's parents they made me feel right at home. The place cards at family dinner was ingenious. I have so many  favorite parts to this story I can't name them all! I don't think I will ever get sick of reading Rachel Van Dyken's stories! By the way Ms. Van Dyken I am itching to read Jake's story. I plead with you to write it soon! A must have book!

Just FYI~ This book does contain swearing through out and per-marital sex with the door slightly ajar with some discription.

Jewelz Review~
Two brothers, six & eight years old respectively. One girl that they both love. One bet for $1,000,000. A blood oath (ok, really it was only spit, but it's the same thing when you are only 6 & 8, right?)

Rachel Van Dyken has done it again with her latest new adult novel "The Bet". Some might argue that the whole "love triangle thing" has been over-done of late. I personally enjoy the various iterations of this plot and the version we encounter in "The Bet" is a bit different than the common love triangle. In this case, it's two brothers who are both in love with the same girl. The girl actually hates one and is best friends with the other. Well, they were best friends until they slept together & now she hates both boys. Except she's agreed to a fake engagement with one... Can things get anymore convoluted? Yes, yes they can.

I absolutely LOVED reading "The Bet". It was a fun, enjoyable read that literally made me go "awe..." at the end. I love a happy ending. Don't get the idea that it is a simple, fluffy romance though. There was grit, emotion, consequences, along with laugh-out-loud moments which all contribute to a depth I have found Ms VanDyken consistently adds to her new adult books.

I enjoyed how the perspective changed from time-to-time so we get to see things from all three main characters' points-of-view. The changes of perspective were clearly defined by a break so I wasn't ever confused. I also appreciated the use of "flashback" type material to slowly flesh out their past relationships throughout the book.

The heroine, Kacey, carries some emotional baggage (nothing like Alec & Demetri in the Seaside series, but baggage nonetheless). Travis and Jake seem to both be "stuck in a rut" so-to-speak. They each have defined roles they play in their relationship with Kacey and it's very hard for them to break out of those roles. When they try to, things go a little "topsy-turvy". Jake's relationship with Kacey is the one that has gone through the most changes over the years, and Jake has been affected by it. His current status as "man whore" is (I believe) a direct result of "that night". Travis, on the other hand, has consistently been Kacey's nemesis. He has teased and tormented her for as long as they have known each other & they fall back into these roles automatically when reunited after several years. When their relationship changes, it's slow going and fraught with mis-steps and mis-understandings. But, like I said, at the end I said "awe..." Everything works out as it should, there are just stumbles along the way - as there is in reality.

I hope we get a sequel so that both brothers get a happy ending:)

FYI: contains language, drinking and premarital sex
(open door, but not overly descriptive)

His Jilted Bride by Rose Gordon

Blurb:
It's her wedding day and there is no groom in sight. But why should Amelia Brice be surprised? Hiram, Lord Friar is known for having no gentleman's honor to speak of and his jilting her on their wedding day makes it official.

Elijah Banks cannot allow his childhood friend to continue to be shamed this way. It's been almost an hour past the time when the wedding was to start, and that bounder still hasn't shown up. Unable to sit still a second longer, Elijah does the only thing that seems logical from where he stands: kidnap the bride and marry her himself in order to escape this scandal with one far more forgiving for a young lady's reputation.

The only trouble is, she has a secret...but so does he; hers is big...but his is bigger.

Jewelz Review:
First off, I have to say I LOVE the cover of this book. Yes, I know you aren’t supposed to judge a book by its cover. But, really, how many of us have bought (or not bought) a book because of its cover? I know there are books that I purchased only because the cover was so beautiful. Some of them I loved, some of them not so much. The fact remains – cover art IS important, and this book has a beautiful cover.

I will admit that I have not read the first two books in this series. However, this book is great as a stand-alone novel. Once I finished this book, I read the “blurbs” for the first two and I can see that the additional background info could be helpful. I’ll just have to go back and read them since I enjoyed this one so much.

This is a fun, regency romance with a little mystery too.  That element of mystery is one thing that makes this book stand out. From the beginning, we know Amelia’s secret. What we don’t know is Elijah’s secret. We get bits and pieces throughout the book. Little clues are spattered here and there as the story progresses. This builds anticipation and even suspense.

The complexity and dynamics of the relationship between Amelia and Elijah keep the story moving. Because they both have secrets and they both believe the other doesn’t love them, it’s nothing short of a roller coaster ride. Elijah is so sweet. He tries so hard to show Amelia that he loves her, but the underlying motivation isn’t his love – and she sees that, not his love. When he finally “gives up” so-to-speak and he takes her to Bath for an outing, I fell in love with him myself. I didn’t care what his secret was – I wanted Amelia to “wake up” and see how much Elijah loved her.

Amelia has loved Elijah her entire life, but he never thought of her as more than a friend. She’s always held out hope that one day he would fall in love with her, but when he “rescues” and marries her, she still thinks he sees her as only a friend. She’s so convinced that he married her out of some kind of obligation that she can’t see that he has fallen in love with her. Fortunately, things eventually work out for the two of them, as it should.

I really enjoyed reading “His Jilted Bride”. It didn’t feel like your typical regency romance with the focus on all the strict rules and social pressures – it was a fun read and I really enjoyed the dynamics of the Banks family along with the relationship between Elijah and Amelia (not to mention trying to figure out Elijah’s secret).

For those who want to know, when Elijah and Amelia finally consummated their marriage it was open door.  I personally prefer less detail, but I loved the book so much I continued reading.

A Secret Seduction Kristin Vayden

Short Story: A Secret Seduction - Kristin Vayden

Continuing with our short challenge, Kristin has supplied us with A Secret Seduction as her contribution.

A Secret Seduction
Kristin Vayden

“I’m making the grand assumption that you’ll be in attendance.” His hungry tone whispered between fervent kisses. “Please say you’ll be there.” He begged as he nibbled on her lower lip.
“Perhaps…someone must keep an eye on you.” Sophia whispered breathlessly. If he continued to kiss her like that she’d soon forget herself and agree to anything, especially that which she could never disclose. The sudden reminder of her secret was like chilly water over her head and she gathered her wits. Breaking the adoring kiss, she leaned away and gazed into his hazel eyes. He regarded her for a moment, then backed away just enough for her to get his spicy scent out of the air surrounding them.
“You doubt my intent.” He spoke after a moment, in his thick accent caused a ripple of pleasure to dance down her spine.
“No, I doubt your mother’s.” Sophia confessed. It was long known that Lady Horatio had boasted grandly about the match to be made by her son, the only heir to their fortune and governing family.
“But not I?” He leaned forward and rested his forehead on hers, once again permeating her air with his spicy fragrance.
“No. Never you, Gabriel. But sometimes life has a way of turning places we thought to be straight. I’ll not hold you to your words when the time comes for you to choose in spite of your heart.” Sophia spoke the words bravely, though as they left her mouth it seemed as if her heart was torn in two.
She would leave and never subject herself to such a torture as seeing the man she loved marry another. But the tangled web of loyalty also demanded that she put his good above her own. She would never rule anyone; never have the weight of a crown heavy upon her. She wouldn’t ever hold the fate of a nation in her grasp, but for now she would devote herself to enjoying every stolen moment where she could hold her dearest possession; his heart.
“Promise me you’ll be there...” Gabriel leaned back and gazed intently into her eyes. Gone was the haze of passion and replacing it was a determination backed by the love she knew he held for her. A love she wished were enough to bind them together forever.
“I cannot.” Sophia spoke as a single tear trailed down her face.
**
The night of the ball arrived and Sophia closed the door to her room with a click that echoed with finality. Tomorrow the land, indeed the world would be buzzing with the news of Gabriel Horatio’s engagement to the English Princess Anne. Though those last few stolen moments in Gabriel’s company were filled with fervent promises that he’d never betray his love for her, she knew that country came first. It was for the best. Even if she had the breeding to offer his family, her secret would shame them all.
“Sophia? You aren’t ready yet, are you?” Her mother’s melodic voice came muffled through the wooden door.
“No. I’m…not well. Why don’t you go on without me? I’m afraid I’ll be needing to stay.” It wasn’t a lie, entirely. Indeed Sophia felt sick, utterly heartsick.
“Very well…” Her mother replied tentatively. Sophia hoped she would enter her room to check on her. The tearstains on her pillow would speak the truth.
She had kept her clandestine adoration of Gabriel a reverent secret. No one would know the pain she harbored when this night was over, no one except the one who truly mattered. The knowledge held a slight comfort, for at least there would be no pitying glances.
“I’ll send up some tea for you.” Her mother called. Soon the sound of her slippered feet walking away let Sophia know she was alone.
The tea arrived shortly after her family departed and the warm comfort of the favored liquid offered a small measure of relief. As she dressed for bed and lit a candle to embroider she strove to keep her mind off of what was surely taking place in the grand Horacio estate.
“Ouch!” Sophia shook her hand as the pain from the needle prick diminished and she closed her eyes and sunk back into the pillows of her bed. It was no use. His hazel eyes haunted her. Over and over her mind continued to replay the stolen glances at parties, the brushing of his fingers over her gloved hand when no one was looking.
“Miss?” A maid called through the door.
“Yes?” Sophia cleared her throat to answer.
“You have a…caller miss. He was quite adamant that I find you.” Her voice was hesitant.
Curious, Sophia opened the door to face the fidgeting maid. She glanced up at her mistress and then down the darkened hall, as if searching for someone.
“This is quite irregular…perhaps the gentlemen is mistaken?”
“No miss. He asked for you by name, but…” She leaned forward and began to whisper. “But he won’t remove his coverings miss. I cannot see his face. I fear for you miss! With your father away and none but the footmen or butler here to defend you!”
A cold shiver ran down Sophia’s spine as she regarded the fearful maid. Yet her curiosity burned against the common sense of turning the stranger away.
“Tell our guest I’ll be down momentarily…but have two footmen and the butler close at hand.”
The maid curtsied then left to do her bidding.
Sophia entered her room and began to put on a simple dress, but paused. Reaching over to her desk she opened a drawer and withdrew a small-sheathed dagger. Carefully she tied it to her calf and then continued to ready herself.
The hall seemed darker, as if the night had consumed what little light the candles offered. Sophia began to feel chilled and her fingers tingled against the cold. When she entered the parlor a warm fire greeted her, along with the silhouette of a heavily cloaked man.
He was broad shouldered and held himself confidently. His head tilted slightly at her entrance, but he didn’t make a sound. Sophia swallowed and tried to find her voice.
“How may I assist you?” Her voice sounded far steadier than was accurate, for this she was thankful.
The stranger turned, but the firelight didn’t reach his hooded face. Rather than speak he took a few steps toward her and then reached into his cloak.
Sophia’s heart pounded. Was he intent on harming her? But he withdrew a letter, rolled and fastened with a scarlet ribbon. He held it out to her. Tentatively, she took it.
Unrolling the missive she began to read the words as they struck fear into her heart.
“What’s the meaning of this?” She asked with a trembling voice.
The man simply nodded and gestured to the letter.
Outlined clearly in the letter were several questions, all relevant to her past, and questioning her future. But one at the bottom was written boldly.
“You want me to answer the question?”
The man nodded and then folded his hands in a relaxed manner.
Sophia read the question once more. If Lord Gabriel Horacio were to give up his position, even knowing your secret and choosing you…would your heart still beat for his alone?
Would her breath catch whenever she saw his hazel eyes watching her? Would her fingers tremble to run through his raven hair? Would her body burn to be next to his? Without the wealth and prestige to accompany him?
“Yes…perhaps more so because then we would be free.” Sophia whispered, knowing that all her secrets would surely be known by morning, but she couldn’t deny the truth in her heart, even to a stranger.
“Then you have chosen well.” A familiar voice called to her as if from a dream. She glanced up through tear-filled eyes as the man began to lower his hood and a pair of familiar hazel eyes gazed at her with a warm intensity.
“Come. There’s not a moment to spare.” Lord Gabriel Horacio, son of one of Spain’s most powerful families strode towards her with determined steps. At once his lips found hers while his fingers dug hungrily through her loosened braid. His mouth savored hers as she lost herself in his own familiar and addicting flavor. He broke their embrace suddenly.
He grasped her hand and wrapped it around his arm and pulled them toward the door. The two footmen and butler gasped as they burst through.
“Halt! You’ll not take—“
“All is well.” Sophia began to speak but Gabriel interrupted.
“Her presence is of the utmost importance this evening.”
All three men halted their approach and turned white in realized who spoke to them.
“Of course, my lord.” The butler stammered while the footmen watched in astounded silence.
A carriage waited outside with two black horses pawing the ground impatiently. Gabriel aided her then entered himself. As the carriage sped away, Gabriel leaned forward and grasped her hand tenderly.
“You should have known I’d not betray you. Even your silence concerning your heritage wasn’t the slightest deterrent. Why did you doubt my love?”
“Because I would not have you sacrifice your destiny for my sake. An alliance with Spain will serve the greater good. How could I remain selfish when so much is at stake?
“I understand. Your humility is only one of the many reasons I love you so deeply. But why did you not trust me with the truth of your birth?” Gabriel’s hazel eyes implored her.
“And burden you?” She questioned, her eyes gazing deeply into his.
“Love is never a burden, regardless of its origin. Love is always a gift to be cherished, shared. It matters not that you were born from love rather than marriage. Your name is not what I love, but you.”
“But my father didn’t marry my mo—“
“I’m aware. And that was his folly. But I will not make the same mistake as my own family and marry for duty when I have the chance for love. Now. We must get you ready.”
The carriage arrived at the Horatio estate and Gabriel surrendered her to the care of several maids who took her to a beautiful room. She was soon dressed in a breathtaking golden gown and powdered. Her hair was quickly attended to and a ruby necklace was placed on her neck as well as ruby colored silk slippers. When Sophia tried to ask any questions her voice was met with silence.
A knock sounded at the door just as she gazed at the transformation in the mirror. Truly she looked like a princess.
“My Lord. She is ready.” A maid broke her silence.
Gabriel strode into the room and grinned. He walked slowly towards her, the intensity in his eyes stealing her breath. “You are breathtaking, thought I thought as much earlier in your parlor with your simple gown.” He reached for her hand and led her down and to a grand staircase.
A voice called from above them and Sophia glanced up to find a million crystals hanging from the ceiling, causing rainbows the dance across the room below them as people began to gather at the base.
“May I present, Lord Gabriel Horatio and his betrothed, Sophia Grace Wellesly!”
Sophia gasped and glanced to Gabriel whose face beamed with a triumphant grin.
“I figured you couldn’t refuse if I announced it to the world rather than ask you in private. I will not let your humility create a barrier that doesn’t exist.” He whispered the words just next to her ear, his warm breath tickling her skin and causing a shiver of delight to run down her back.
“But your mother…”
“Has no other choice. Now, I would love to waltz with my soon to be wife, that is, if you will do me the honor?” He raised an eyebrow and led them down the grand staircase as the orchestra began to play. At the bottom he bowed and pulled her into a tight embrace and began to waltz.
**
“And that, dear children, is how your father rescued me. Not with a sword, a dagger or force. But he saved me by his love. For after all, love does conquer all.”

The Banks Brothers' Brides by Rose Gordon

 Blurb:

Edward Banks, Lord Watson has known most of his life that one day Regina Harris was to be his bride--but somebody forgot to inform her... An avid academic and aspiring scientist, Edward is pleased to find that he won’t have to bother with the nonsense involved in courting a young lady. Young and naive, it doesn't take much for her social-climbing father to convince Regina the gentleman she's to marry has requested her hand out of love, but devastates her when she learns the truth. Now, it's up to a gentleman who's more comfortable in a conservatory than a drawing room to prove to Regina that she's more than just the proverbial sacrificial lamb that helped gain her family their foot in Society's door and that he--if no other gentleman--is trustworthy. But he just might be the one doing the learning as he'll be forced to acknowledge that sometimes the most combustible elements aren't the ones you control, but sometimes the ones you don't.

 Jewelz’ Review:

I absolutely loved this book! I suffer from circumstances that lead me to read these books out of order, however, that’s ok because I’m just learning background information in a random order ;) So, this is the story of Regina and Edward Banks; the story of how she thought she had a love match, and he thought he had a contract bride. Simply put, it’s a love story. No big twists and turns or surprises that shock you and make you rethink what’s going on. But that’s ok, I didn’t need any of that to keep my interest. What this book did have was wonderful character development and a solid plot. Regina is such a spitfire. Oh, I just love her. Granted, she doesn’t start out that way. Her father has done quite a number on her. It’s so fulfilling to watch her develop into the amazing, strong woman that she is. While she grows and changes, she never strays from who she truly is. Underneath the somewhat submissive young woman her father raised, Regina has always been strong. She never wavers in her love for Edward, even when he breaks her heart. Edward is just a good guy. He’s so enamored with his scientific pursuits that he doesn’t recognize what’s right in front of him. This is so perfectly typical of highly intelligent people! I love how he frequently remarks “odd that” as he slowly begins to recognize signs of his affection for Regina. He tries so hard to protect her and to please her, but sometimes he just botches it all. Even the best laid plans sometimes go awry. They both are simply a joy to get to know. Their verbal sparring was delightful and their adventures nothing short of memorable. I think one of my favorite parts of the book was learning the story behind the “horribly decorated drawing room” in their London townhouse. I will be laughing about that for a long time.

Having grown up on a large indigo plantation, the expressive and possibly overdramatic, Carolina Ellis can hardly wait to see what the gentlemen of Charleston will be like. But alas, they were not what she'd been hoping for. Ball after ball and dance after dance, Carolina is disappointed time and again. Then she sees him... Boston and Philadelphia held no appeal to John, so on a suggestion from a friend, he headed south to the booming town of Charleston, South Carolina. Not meaning to become the center of attention, John becomes exactly that when he walks right into the largest social event of the year dressed like nothing more than a poor drifter. So what is a penniless man to do when in such a situation? The only thing he can do: rely on his sense of humor to extinguish the tension. Immediately, Carolina takes a shine to this unusual man and his equally unusual humor and is determined she will do whatever it takes to marry him—Southern aristocracy be damned.

 Jewelz’ Review:

I didn’t think it was possible, but I fell in love with John & Carolina just as much as I did with Edward & Regina. Poor John, the youngest son of a baron, he’s decided to become a country vicar and settle down with a polite young miss. However, Edward thinks that John needs to go travel for a while before settling down. During John’s trip to America he befriends Gabriel who ultimately is the reason John’s plans to settle down with the perfect country vicar’s wife fall apart despite his best efforts. Gabriel’s younger sister Carolina is a sweet, kind-hearted young woman. But, no one would describe her as a polite young miss. She’s outspoken, vivacious, and determined. She is everything John was not looking for in his future wife. But, all it took was one look into his eyes, and Carolina knew she would marry John. And once Carolina sets her mind to something – there’s no stopping her. John never had a chance. To his credit, John admits he’s attracted to the spunky Carolina. It’s just that he firmly believes that he needs a calm, quiet, polite young woman who will fill the role of vicar’s wife as he perceives it should be. He’s learned from the problems that plagued his parents’ marriage. And he recognizes the love and adventure his brother and Regina share. But, he believes strongly that he needs a specific type of woman, especially as he is to be a vicar. So, despite the fact that he is attracted to Carolina and enjoys her company, he just can’t marry her. I thoroughly enjoyed Carolina’s persistence in pursuing John. You have to appreciate her strength of character and determination. Her kindness & consideration to those she loved was admirable, especially considering her mother. The rocky and twisting road travelled to the altar is definitely a fun ride for the reader. This was a joy to read and a wonderful addition to the Banks’ family saga.

While traveling around America, Elijah Banks makes a promise he's unable to keep. So to guard his family's name and his sister-in-law's feelings, Henry Banks tells this beautiful stranger that he is the brother she seeks and impulsively agrees to marry the stunning beauty who introduces herself as Elijah's intended.

It might have been a while since she'd last seen the twins in a smokey ballroom in New York, but she knows it's Henry who is claiming to be Elijah—she just doesn't care. One Banks brother is as good as the next, as far as she's concerned. Her near ensnarement of and marriage proposal from Elijah was just part of her plan to seek revenge on their family, but Henry will suffice just as well.

When Elijah and his new wife return from their recent trip to Italy, he has a lot of explaining to do. Especially, when, for the safety of his entire family, he has to reveal what he knows about this American beauty: including her plan for revenge.

Now, without giving away either his identity or his heart, Henry must find a way to dissuade his wife from revenge—but he's soon finding that ideas are easier formed than executed and with each attempt to change her mind, he loses a little more of his heart to this enchanting creature.

Not the dimwit everyone has treated her as her entire life, she knows exactly what her husband is about. But while her mind refuses to accept his advances, her heart can't deny them. Everything from his carefree manner to his genuine gestures is a stark contrast to the man she'd been married to before.

But when when her opportunity to seek revenge presents itself, she must decide if it's revenge she longed for, or the love of a good man, because even she knows she can't have both.

Legend of the Forbidden by JF Jenkins and Legend of the Tribes by JF Jenkins

Blurb:
Danielle Inero is the only female dragon in existence. Destined for greatness, her parents have done everything in their power to keep her grounded and in the dark of the true power within her. She’s in an arranged engagement with her best friend Tyson of the Terran, but in love with her other best friend Ethan, who is Oceina. Her fiancĆ© Tyson doesn’t seem to mind because his eyes are on a beautiful girl named Maya. Ideally, there shouldn’t be a problem.

But politics soon turn everything ugly as the three friends must find a way to make their dreams come true, as well as dodge the backlash of their actions. The governing officials of the dragon world know about the three youth’s destiny, one that is based on an ancient prophecy. While some nations will do everything in their power to make this prophecy a reality, others will do whatever it takes to make sure it doesn’t.

Jewelz’ Review:
Legend of the Forbidden is a bit of a transition novel. It focuses on the next generation of dragons and their relationships. 18 dragon years have passed since the end of the previous book and the “kids” Ethan, Danielle, and Tyson are all getting together with family to celebrate Ethan & Danielle’s birthdays. There are all kinds of love-triangle-type stuff going on which is at once enjoyable and frustrating, but in a good way. Ms Jenkins doesn’t follow the road oft travelled with these relationships.  This adds an element of anticipation and keeps the reader engaged in the plot.

Since the previous book tied up the myth regarding the “touched” dragons, this book begins to address the myth regarding the coming of the “Great Dragon” who will be a pure-blood dragon born of Inero blood in the city near the sea. The Great Lord of the Terran will do all in his power to ensure that Tyson, a Terran, marries Danielle (the only female dragon) and thus the Terran help bring the Great Dragon. However, it isn’t just politics and love that are at play here. The “Great Evil” is still lurking, laying his own plan to prevent the coming of the Great Dragon.
I really enjoyed this book. It had a slightly different feel than the previous books – which is appropriate as we are reading from the perspective of the next generation.  Considering 18 dragon years is equivalent to 72 human years, a lot of time has passed and the world is a very different place. The kids are not aware of the prophecies that foretell their destinies and affect their parents’ and leaders’ decisions. There are definitely some themes running through this book, such as the importance of communication, not jumping to conclusions, being honest, and the ever-presence of “evil” (even when we’ve forgotten about it and it hasn’t “reared-its ugly head” in some time). The themes aren’t delivered in a “preachy” way, but they were definitely there, and appropriate to the story. I look forward to the conclusion of this engrossing series.

Blurb:
Two short stories from The Dragons Saga.
Two more tribes are explored.

“Legend of the Aero Dragon”

Etzli is the youngest son of the Great Dragon Lord of the Wind. Per the traditions of his people, his whole life is planned out for him by his parents -- including his future bride. At first, he dreads the idea of marrying a woman he’s never met. Then he lays his eyes on his betrothed, Itotia. After one dance, he’s convinced his family finally got something right for him. Little does he know that the woman who claims to be his future bride is actually an imposter.

“Legend of the Terran Dragon”

Single father, Taj, has done his best to adapt to his new life after the tragic death of his wife. With the pressure to remarry, on top of being thrust into a political game he doesn’t want to play, Taj is close to having a mental breakdown. The light at the end of his tunnel is his co-worker, Romina. But the closer he gets to her, the harder it is to keep his biggest secret from her.

Jewels’ Review:

This is a great addition to the Dragon Saga. The two short stories give us much needed background on both “Touched” dragons from Aero and Terran. They are stories that are not essential to the main plot line of the series, but readers want this stuff. They are perfect as “bonus” material that fleshes out background information and minor storylines that don’t fit within the confines of the main plot. Of course, I would have loved for them to be longer, but I really can’t complain. The stories are well developed and each is unique. The little bit we see of Etzli and Taj in Legend of the Touched isn’t much – but we do get a taste of their personalities & that each has a “story”. This answers all those little questions we had like “WHAT is Etzli’s problem? And what happened to Taj’s wife?”

If you’re a fan of the Dragon Saga, it’s definitely worth reading.

Legend of the Touched by JF Jenkins

Blurb:
Darien and Tai Oceina have not been married for long, but already they have one of the most complicated relationships and it hasn’t even been a year yet. He is the leader of a nation and a dragon. She is carrying their first child who is supposed to be “the answer”. As Darien dives further into the politics of his people, a wedge is driven deeper between him and his wife.

Twin brothers Jason and Matthias Inero were always inseparable. For the first time in their lives they are apart from each other. Matt continues to do the will of their father, the corrupted Dragon Lord of the Inero, while Jason has fled with his bride to an island where he can forget about everything. Or try to. Being possessed by a demon makes that hard to achieve, and as the creature fights to control his body, Jason discovers a lot of shocking truths about his lineage and destiny.

The two worlds of fire and water collide as both dragon tribes prepare for war with the other. Matthias is determined to crush Darien’s people. Only an ancient spell will give Darien enough power to fight back and have any hope at winning. The spell is complicated however and requires all four dragon tribes to work together in harmony. Something that is a lot easier said than done.

Jewelz Review:
I think Legend of the Touched may be my favorite of the Dragon Saga so far. While I enjoyed the first two books and could hardly put them down, this third installment reached a climax that had been building throughout the series.

In Legend of the Touched, we follow both the Oceina Dragons and the Inero Dragons. The chapters are actually written from the perspectives of both dragon types – one or the other. I really liked that about this book. Sometimes, it can be difficult for an author to use multiple voices in a novel and have it read smoothly and seamlessly. I feel that Ms. Jenkins did a wonderful job with this aspect. It flowed and the different voices were necessary for telling the complete story.

I really enjoyed the further character development of not only our main characters, but some of the additional characters, like Alex, Navi, Chris, etc. I liked how she brought some of the side characters into the main storyline. For example, I really didn’t like Alex at all. By the time I finished Touched I understood his character and his purpose in the story. I was thinking he was just an annoying character that was there to cause a bit of stress in Darien & Tai’s relationship. Not so! It was such a pleasant surprise for me to see his role develop and I actually grew fond of him.

It seems that this book is the one where the reader gets a lot of questions answered and pieces of the puzzle fall into place – which is very satisfying. I loved learning a bit about the other “touched” dragons and I loved how Darien handled the situation with Matt. It showed growth and strength of character. Fabulous addition to the Dragon Saga.
