My travelogue Dachshunds Can Fly is about a dachshund, but my humorous mystery novel Turtle Bay
is not about turtles. I named it that because we visited the famous
Turtle Bay Resort on the north shore of Oahu. It struck me as a great
setting for a mystery. Some of the characters have real life models,
especially the detective’s twelve year old twin daughters Myra and Maya.
They were inspired by my granddaughter Sydney, who is now a sophomore
in college. Some years ago, my husband and I went on a cruise with her
parents and brother. Sydney was thirteen at the time and was hilarious. I
was especially delighted when she ordered escargots and actually ate
them, adding however, that she would probably not do that again for
quite a while.
Questor
the dachshund sadly died two years ago. He is actually a mixture of
himself and his predecessor The Little Dog, hero of my travelogue. A
couple of months ago Maxwell, a wildly energetic two year old dachshund
joined our household. It is a zoo, another dog, five cats, and lots of
plants. Oh well, I am retired and it keeps me entertained.
Blogging is new for me. Hope it doesn’t show.
