The Redemption of Lord Rawlings by Rachel Van Dyken

Blurb~
Phillip Crawford, the eighth Earl of Rawlings and notorious rake of the ton, has come to the end of his rope. Out of money, out of favor, and out of luck, he wanders the streets of London in the rain, hoping to be hit by inspiration...or a runaway carriage. Something has to give. It is his father's final cruel trick to hold his inheritance just out of reach, requiring him to marry by his next birthday in order to claim his full rights as earl. His step-mother refuses to offer him any more support. With no money, no prospects and no other place to turn, he has only two options:

Marriage or debtor's prison.

The better choice seems clear enough, but with his name and reputation being attacked daily in the society papers, there's not a proper lady in all of London desperate enough to accept him. It isn't going to be easy, even if the reports of his exploits and rakish lifestyle are greatly exaggerated.

On the other hand, debtor's prison does start to look much more appealing when the only friends he has left decide to help him in his search for the perfect bride. Matters become much more complicated when the only woman who shows an interest in him just happens to be the young sister-in-law of the Duke of Tempest; the same man who, just months ago, had been tempted to kill him.

One thing is for certain, as the Season draws to an end, Lord Rawlings will have to decide once and for all, if his wicked ways are enough to bring him contentment in life, or if a leopard really can change his spots. Or in Phillip's case—can a devil truly be redeemed?

Tifferz Take~
This is book three in the  House of Renwick Series. I think it also stands alone nicely. I simply can not get enough of Ms. Van Dyken's stories. The characters come to life and they simply charm me. Though at times I wanted to ring Phillip's neck and times I wanted to kill Abby. Wow those two are really stubborn. The chemistry flew off the pages, combined  that with the banter, this story had me laughing and smiling so big my kids where asking what are you reading about. I enjoyed that this story is a bit different and it is not love at first sight. Phillip and Abby have some history!
I liked how Abby pushed the limits and learned some lessons. Though I would have loved to see what Phillip did about Abby calling him a street urchin!  I  enjoyed how each chapter had a quote from Mrs. Peabody's Society Pages. This is a sensual romance that left me with a smile on my face. I look forward to reading many more of Ms. Van Dyken's books as each one seems to get better than the last! A delicious read I highly recommend!

The Syrenka Series Tour

Betrayal (Book 2)

"Life as a mermaid can be suffocating.
Eviana Dumahl has returned home as a clan leader, an orphan, and a heartbroken teenage girl. Her parents are dead and her boyfriend, Brendan, has decided that he needs some time away. While battling her inner turmoil, Eviana is forced into the war that Lucian Sutherland has incited amongst her own kind. With the help of Kain, her friend and formally betrothed, the two work together to prove that they deserve their birthrights as young merfolk leaders.
When the Council requests a demonstration of Eviana’s mermaid powers, she finds herself with an opportunity to win back Brendan’s heart. But her orders to train with a repulsive merman and the presence of an attractive new suitor challenges Eviana to embrace her leadership and resist temptation. Lucian is after her, and no one seems to understand why. Loyalties are tested as the casualties increase, showing Eviana that sometimes it is impossible to delineate between friends and enemies."
Tifferz Take~
Amber Garr has outdone herself. I am stupefied at how this series has unfolded. Betrayal has quite a bit of the unexpected and some twists that caught me off guard.  I loved book one Promises and book two Betrayal is even better. Ms. Garr is creative and has such a great plot and character development.  Eviana has grown and Kian as well, but have they grown closer? We also meet Graham and does Brandon come back? Does he stay? If you want to know pick up this book. I would love to see these books turned into movies. I think how things ended in Betrayal was a nicely done, but left me thinking I need to know what happens. This book can't be over yet. I am excited to read book three Arise. I am intrigued to see what happens with Eviana. A must read series. I would highly recommend this series to anyone who loves romance, adventure, the unexpectd twist, mystery and ya reading.

THEY HAD A DREAM. SHE HAD IT ALL.

Detroit, 1968. The Motown sound is sweeping the nation. Girl groups are hotter than ever. Over their mother’s objections, three beautiful sisters—Delores, Sister and Sparkle—are taking the local music scene by storm. But their dreams are bigger than Detroit. Their manager, Stix, is just as ambitious and will do whatever it takes to make it to the big time, even if it means using the girls—and his love for Sparkle—as the foundation of a new musical empire.

Behind the music and lights, the recording industry is a ruthless and unforgiving place, just as Mama had warned her girls. Sister, with her good looks and voice, is the natural headliner of the trio, yet her complicated personal life threatens to overshadow her talent; Delores has her sights set on a different kind of life outside the spotlight; and young Sparkle must push past her deepest fears if she is to fulfill her destiny—does she really have what it takes to go all the way?

Riveting and soul-stirring, this timeless tale reminds us of the unbreakable bonds between family, the high price of fame and what can happen when we dare to show the world how brightly we can sparkle.

Greg's animosity and distrust forces Raven into an unpalatable position of safeguarding her mother's happiness. His arrogant assumption his father has been conned by a gold digger enrages Raven and she assumes the mantle to prove him wrong. Even if she is wrong about him, she can’t extricate herself from her pretence and she’s afraid he’ll never forgive her deception, her lies. Can he ever understand her reasons for pretending to be engaged to his father?

She was his father’s fiancĂ©e, wasn’t she? Greg discovers Raven’s subterfuge within days of her arrival. His initial enjoyment of her antics quickly palls as his feelings for her deepen. Desperate to bring her lies into the open, he maneuvers her into a situation where she’ll be forced to own up, only to have his scheme backfire.

But Raven has other secrets. Secrets that could drive Greg away, forever.

Tifferz Take-

Anne Ashby has  a way of drawing me into her stories quickly and keeping hooked till the very last word. I loved how Ms. Ashby added details of how things are different in the US compared to New Zealand. It is fun to see the differences. I remember when I moved overseas and how things can be very different. I also enjoyed how Raven was going to teach Greg a lesson. I enjoyed watching her do that. I also found that Anne threw in a few surprises I was not expecting. This is a delightful read that I am still thinking about over a month later.

The Book of Lost Fragrances by M.J. Rose

Blurb~
Jac L’Etoile has always been haunted by the past, her memories infused with the exotic scents that she grew up surrounded by as the heir to a storied French perfume company. In order to flee the pain of those remembrances—and of her mother’s suicide—she moves to America, leaving the company in the hands of her brother Robbie. But when Robbie hints at an earth-shattering discovery in the family archives and then suddenly goes missing—leaving a dead body in his wake—Jac is plunged into a world she thought she’d left behind.

Back in Paris to investigate her brother’s disappearance, Jac discovers a secret the House of L’Etoile has been hiding since 1799: a scent that unlocks the mysteries of reincarnation. The Book of Lost Fragrances fuses history, passion, and suspense, moving from Cleopatra’s Egypt and the terrors of revolutionary France to Tibet’s battle with China and the glamour of modern-day Paris. Jac’s quest for the ancient perfume someone is willing to kill for becomes the key to understanding her own troubled past.

 Tifferz Take~
The Book of Lost Fragrances took me a little bit to figure out all the players in this suspenseful novel. Once I figured it out I was swept from present day into the past and back again. I liked how Ms. Rose Incorporated a tragic love story, murder, betrayal, the Chinese Mafia, the Dali Lama and mix in a fragrance that can have you remember your past lives. It is a thrilling read with ups and downs that had my heart racing at times. I enjoyed that this story was unique and unusual. The story has lingered in my mind for some time now.   Just fyi~This book does contain the F word about 8 times, a rape scene, adultery and sexual situations with some detail.

Fruit of My Spirit by Deanna Nowadnick

Blurb:
Fruit of My Spirit is a memoir of short stories in which Deanna Nowadnick shares the hugeness of God’s love and faithfulness.  Reframing life in God’s grace, she discovers an indescribable, indefinable, inexplicable love that has encircled her without fail through joyous, sad, cringe-worthy, heartwarming, forgettable, memorable moments in life.

Fruit of My Spirit is for anyone who’s ever questioned God’s ability to love and forgive, who’s ever wondered about their place in God’s family or God’s place in theirs.  Nowadnick offers hope for those who dare to question, who secretly wonder, and who fear to ask.  Through stories of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, you will experience the enormity of God, too.

This is Deanna Nowadnick’s first book.  What started as short story for her sons quickly became a larger story.  When not writing, she serves as the Client Service Specialist for a financial advisor.  She’s active in her church, playing the violin and editing the newsletter.  She loves to knit, adores chocolate, and most important, enjoys a blessed marriage to Kurt.  Deanna lives in Monroe, WA.

What people have said:“Fruit of My Spirit is beautifully written with intelligence and vulnerability.  It is part Bible study, part memoir, part confessional.  Every part of Deanna’s journey is moving, emotional, touching, and will inspire the reader to seek how God brings about His fruit in their own spirit.  I not only enjoyed the book, but am excited and blessed to recommend it!” Rev. Upon a Midnight Dream by Rachel Van Dyken

Blurb-
"I release you..." were the last words Rosalind remembered before her world went black. Stefan, the future duke of Montmouth, no doubt thought his words were welcomed but he couldn't have been more wrong. Oh, he was handsome as a pagan Norse god, but that was unimportant when her life as well as those of her family hung in the balance.

With less than six weeks left, Rosalind has stopped believing in the fairy tale, the prince on the white horse, and the stolen kiss that would awaken her from her worst nightmares. Resigned to her fate, she waits for the inevitable curse to run it’s course.

"We must marry at once!" Stefan declared, fully expecting Rosalind to be delighted that he had come to save her, but he was sorely mistaken. Rosalind was no simpering docile female; she was a fiery temptress with a stubborn streak only matched by his horse, Samson. Insulting, infuriating, intoxicating and alluring enough to drive a man mad. Stefan found himself thankful for the curse that required him marry her, thankful for the betrothal contract he had so recently tried to release her from...With the fortitude of a sailor shipwrecked, abandoned, and a solider warring for his life Stefan decides to lay siege to the greatest prize, Rosalind's heart.

Tifferz Take-
Upon a Midnight Dream is a sweet romantic fairy tale meets Regency with some twists that kept me captivated till the last page.  I could not pull myself away from this story to do any other task. I am still thinking of this story weeks later. I look forward to the next book to see what happens with Rose's sisters. I was left enchanted but with hunger for more from the London Fairy Tale series. Ms. Van Dyken has proven many times she can produce a wide range of stories that leave me entranced!
Stefan is so funny and a sweet brute that has Rosalinds best interest at heart. I loved Stefan's horse Samson he has quite the personality. Rosalind is a strong heroine and likes to make things a little hard for Stefan. Not that I am complaining. I was delighted to see the many exchanges between Rosalind and Stefan. Rosalinds family is crazy and mad. I liked that they were really messed up and not perfect. Stefan's family has got a good mix of drama as well. If you like romance, fairy tales and regency this is a must read.

Promises book one in The Syrenka Series by Amber Garr

"Sometimes following your heart can end up destroying the ones you love.
When seventeen-year-old Eviana Dumahl is faced with the responsibility of an arranged marriage and clan leadership, she is forced to choose between the life required of a mermaid and one of a teenage girl simply infatuated with the wrong guy. Kain, her devoted fiancĂ© would make a wonderful husband except that she’s been in love with Brendan, a shape-shifting selkie, ever since they were kids. Choosing to abandon her family, her clan, and her life with Kain will have dire consequences far beyond anything she could have imagined.
A war is brewing amongst the clans and Eviana unwittingly becomes a pawn in the intricate schemes of a twisted mastermind. With Brendan’s life on the line, she has no choice but to involve those who she once considered friends. Amidst encountering senseless tragedies and immense loss, Eviana discovers that she is more valuable as a clan leader than anyone ever suspected. Her survival is not only dependent upon the loyalty of her friends, but also on her acceptance of a life that she had so adamantly tried to escape."
Tifferz Take~

Promises was my first story about mermaids and other creatures. I felt Promises was a breath of fresh air. The story line was awesome and Eviana was typical 18 year old. Eviana makes some choices that she thinks are the best for her. But are they really? I really felt for Eviana and Kain. Kain is a rock and as the story unfolds I like him all the more. Brendan I am not sure how I feel about him. As I read this amazing story I found myself swallowed up and surprised by the things that unfolded before my eye. I  would not  and could not put Promises down till it was over.  I was a little confused on what the selke do with the skin because I can't imagine them walking around with it but it does not say.
Ms. Garr has written a unique and fresh story. I love how she ended book 1. She gave me enough closure and left me wanting more. Ms. Garr also left the first chapter of book 2 at the end of book 1. I love when authors do that.
I loved this book and can't wait to read book 2 Betrayal. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance, adventure, mystery and ya reading.

THE LONELY HEART by JACQUELYN WEBB

blurb-
Melissa's dull life is turned upside down when cynical Peter Darcy mistakes her for her frivolous flatmate, Sonia. Sonia is Peter's cousin and Melissa is immediately caught up in the sinister battle over their family business and is persuaded to maintain the deception to shield Sonia from a rift with her dying grandmother.

Tifferz Take-

Ms. Webb has created a fun light hearted romance with some of the unexpected. Melissa is such a likable heroine and Peter is an unexpected distraction. Melissa is not sure how she feels about Peter. Melissa then starts rethinking her current relationship. I think Sonia is fantastic but throw in the Davenports, a nurse, lawyer, doctor and a very sick grandma and you are in for a delightful read with lively characters. Who will Melissa pick? Who will Sonia end up with? If you want to know pick up The Lonely Heart a contemporary romance.

No way will she risk exposing the beast at the prince’s ball, no matter how her two cousins try to persuade her. But his father, the king, commands him to attend a ball where he must choose a wife. Can he find his Cinderella before he's forced to marry another? He doesn’t even have her real name, much less a glass slipper.

Tifferz Take-

Ms. Blade has done it again! A  Bite's Tales is a unique twist on Cinderella meets paranormal meets Jane Austen. I am a sucker for young first love. This is a sweet story that captivated and entranced me from the get go. I polished this off in one sitting and have a hankering to read it again. Cydeny and Remy's story has stayed with me and I find myself thinking of it often. I think it would be cool to see Cydeny's cousins stories and see them have a happy ever after. I know my daughter who is twelve would love this story as well. Ms. Blade is a talented author with a wide range of stories that will have you coming back for more. I am eager for more from Ms. Blade as I have not read a book by her that I have not loved.

Single in the City blurb:

Take one twenty six year old American, add to a two thousand year old city, add a big dose of culture clash and stir.

To think Hannah ever believed that Americans differed from Brits mainly in pronunciation, sophistication and dentistry. That’s been the understatement of a lifetime. She lands upon England’s gentle shores with no job, no friends and no idea how she’s supposed to build the life she’s dreaming of. Time to Bury the Past by Anne Ashby

Blurb-
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder forces American Naval Officer Zane Erickson to re-evaluate his life. A posting to untroubled New Zealand, after years in Afghanistan, should allow him to bond with his motherless teenage son. Unfortunately Cody doesn't share his father's enthusiasm for this new living arrangement. Kelsey Hewitt is a single mother wrestling with her son's drinking problem. She struggles to keep the truth about his abusive father from him and is determined to exclude men from her life. As Kelsey and Zane are drawn together by the boys' friendship, they each have compelling reasons to avoid any possible intimacy. Through dealing with their sons' dilemmas, their attraction for each other deepens. Can Kelsey risk allowing another control freak into her life?

Tifferz Take-
Time to Bury the Past is a brilliant read. I picked it up and would not and could not put it down till the last word was read. So, far this is my favorite book by Anne Ashby. The story is realistic. I felt like I was reading about a friend.  I instantly like Kelsey right off. Zane on the other hand I was not so sure about but once I got to know him better. I was good with Zane. Dan and Cody are typical teenagers but they have a set of different problems.  Kelsey, Zane, Dan and Cody all have demons they need to deal with. I love  how they have to work on the problems and they just don't magically disappear.  Ms. Ashby does an awesome job of drawing you into the story and developing the characters.  I will admit I felt an array of emotions while reading Time to Bury the Past. Such as happiness, sadness, anger, disappointment, heartache, frustration, joy, understanding, relief and I even cried. I have a huge respect for the military world wide and I thank them and the ones the love and leave behind. This is a must read book and I will be reading this beautiful story again and more from Ms. Ashby she has some serious skills. If you have not check out Ms. Ashby check out her books!

Wilderness Liaison by Anne Ashby

Blurb-
The concrete jungle defines financier Shal Gregory, who thrives on the sheer vitality of the fast-paced corporate world. Until he find himself alone in the thick of the New Zealand bush with a feisty guide who despises everything he stands for.

Jodie Mathieson's devotion to the wilderness fulfills her. She isn't prepared for an intimate liaison with a man who clearly does not share her love of the great outdoors. When sparks between them ignite-Jodi runs.

Bewildered but determined, Shal tracks Jodie down, resolving to convince her that having differing life goals isn't enough to keep them apart.

Tifferz Take-

I love to travel and want to go to New Zealand. Well, after reading Wilderness Liaison. New Zealand has been bumped up on my travel list. Ms. Ashby did such an great job describing the scenery that I want to go camping. And I am not a huge camper. I love that Shal and Jodie do not like each other when they meet and for some time. The tension was so thick. Excellent writing and the story has a good pace and some unexpected developments. I also like that Shal and Jodie had flaws and had to work at the relationship. It was not always smooth sailing. I think if you need a trip and can't afford one get this book and enjoy the ride. I can't wait to check out all Ms. Ashbys work.
Just fyi this has a handful of swear words and some descriptive foreplay. All sex is behind closed doors.

Tifferz Take~
This story  consumed me and my thoughts. It is beautifully written with spectacular descriptions and lively characters. I laughed, felt the joy of new love, worry, loss, learned a few lessons and loved the complex relationship Nora and Gavin shared. I loved Nora's gifts and was cracking up when she was learning to work the water in the tree. This story has some epic twist and turns that will left me in awe. I loved how Ms. Isaacs wrapped  things up in this story. But let me tell you I was left wanting more. I can't wait to get my greedy  hands on book two The Secret of the Keepers Kailmeyra #2. This book is pure magic! I highly recommend this read!
