Besotted by Jacqueline Gardner

Blurb:

After escaping the grasp of a serial killer, Bridget begins school at Hartfield Manor. But going to school with other teenage mind-readers turns out to be nothing but complicated. Upon arrival the headmaster gives her an alarming warning, the Coven is plotting something deadly, and on top of that she has caught the eye of the hottest guy at Hartfield. Too bad his older brother threatened her to stay away or else.

And then there's Terrence. Bars aren't enough to stop him.

Excerpt from Chapter 6 - Watched

The chilled air filled my lungs as I walked with my hands in my pockets, composing a letter to Emma in my head.

Dear Emma,

My first day of school went okay understatement. I met a lot of interesting people like me. A guy, and a couple of girls that seem chill though not exactly drama free. Of course, hanging out in my dorm with them isn't the same as hangin' with you and Rory. What's up with Rory by the way? I haven't heard from him yet. Still as annoying as ever I bet, but you know I don't mind it (don't tell him I said that).

I'm guessing the only thing you took from that first part was 'I met a guy'. Don't get too excited. Yes, he's definitely what you're imagining but the bad news is he's my type - hard to read and probably a jerk. I'll be steering clear easier written than done. I'm here to be trained, not to find a boyfriend.

The Professors are . . . not what I expected. Something crazy: I think one of them might have known my dad or knows someone that knew him. Yeah. Haven't really brought that up yet. It's not something I can really slip casually into a conversation. Speaking of that quiz coming up, did you know my father? But I guess I have time, right? And by the way, one of my classmates might be a powerful Coven member sent here to either kill me or recruit me. But I'm only like 92% sure.

More details later (I promise),

Bri

A cool breeze hit my face and my nose was filled with the scent of baked goods and fresh cut flowers. I'd reached the tiny village just down the hill. It contained one row of shops, a market, an inn, and a small neighborhood of town houses. I walked across the quiet sidewalk, staring at each brick building. The different shades of tan all came together creating storefronts of faded browns. Each shop had an individual color scheme on its sign. A bucket of colorful tulips sat outside the floral shop.

I strolled farther down the street, stopping when the smell of cigarette smoke made me cough. I turned my head and cleared my throat.

"Bored already?" I could barely make out Dylan's face behind the cloud of smoke. The same familiar jolt of electricity lit a spark in my brain when I looked at him. He leaned against the brick wall around the corner from the floral shop. My chest froze as I nervously eyed his black trench coat and the black strands of hair laying flat over his eyes.

"Maybe," I replied, deciding to play it cool. "Should you really be smoking here? You might kill the tulips." He grinned. A public place. Stay in a public place.

"Let me guess," he said, blowing out a puff of smoke. "Hartfield wasn't what you expected."

"Was it what you expected when you got here?"

"Ah no," he chuckled.

Game of Hearts by Kathryn J. Bain

Blurb-
Deborah Zimmerman’s life is not going well right now. She has to deal with a deadbeat dad, teenagers, financial stress, and a store manager’s glare. The cake that lands on her head isn’t helping any. When she bumps into Brandon Nash, her heart skips a beat. Could this be love at first sight or the signs of a heart attack?

Tifferz Take-
Game of Hearts is a inspiring, sweet, funny romance about Deb who is divorced with three kids. Deb is going through a rough time when she meets Brandon. She is more than a little hesitant with men. Brandon is a really good guy and is just what Deb needs. I was laughing and cheering for Deb and her family the whole time. I loved the mix of friends Deb has and how they all support each other. I also think she nailed the kids.  Ms. Bain creates a real life story that  warmed my soul and left me with happiness in my heart. I also like the cover. This story did not contain any swearing or sex for those who like to know.

Black (The Silver Series Book 2) by Cheree Alsop

blurb-
Black, the second book in The Silver Series, is about a werewolf raised through the atrocities of a werewolf fighting ring. He is rescued and given the chance at a new life, but haunting reminders of his past follow him as he tries to make a fresh start. He has to confront his dark history in order to protect the girl he loves, or let himself be swept away into the pain and humiliation of the arena once more.

The second book of a fresh new werewolf series, Black is fast paced, dark, and shows that love is something worth fighting for.

Tifferz Take-
I literally tore through this book and boy does it pack a punch. I have to hand it to Ms. Alsop she is very creative and know how to create a riveting, heart pounding story. It broke my heart to see what Jet went through as a child. It is tough not having any choices in life. It was interesting to see how Jet once given  choices, how he reacts and the choices he makes on his own. We do get to see how people/werewolf's can change given choices.
I really liked the dynamics of the wolf packs. How they have protective instincts. It was great to meet some new werewolf's and see how things are going for Jaze, Nikki and Chet from book one. One thing I found had to follow is the time line. I felt is really was not clear how much time has passed and I thought Jet was much younger before he meets Jaze. But he is actually around 17. Other than that a super read. For your info this does contain violence and bloody fighting. But does not contain sex or swearing.
This is a series you will not want to miss out on.

Silver (The Silver #1) by Cheree Alsop

blurb-
Silver, book one of the Silver Series, is a coming of age story about a teenage werewolf whose father is murdered. He has to come to terms with his new life, new school, and new friends while trying to prevent more killings. Attempting to make peace with the territory’s pack and falling in love with a werewolf hunter’s daughter make his new situation even more perilous.

Tifferz Take-
This is not your ordinary werewolf story and I am so glad that the next book is already out so I can jump right in and read it cause I am hooked on this series. Silver is a page turner that had me up past my bedtime because I did not want to put it down.  Jaze is a really down to earth guy that has experienced some hard things in the last month. I think Ms. Alsop was realistic in how Jaze deals with the trails set before him. It touched  my heart how he looks out for his mom.  Nikki is a little rebel and needs a good friend. I like how Jaze and Nikki form a friendship first. I also like that it is not perfect and that people need to say sorry when they mess up.  I also thought the ending was perfect. But, if I had to wait to read book two I might have died waiting. I think Ms. Alsop was brilliant in her weapons she uses in her book and I loved when Brock a friend of Jaze tells his driver test story. I was cracking up. This story was awesome, faced pace with lots of action and a sweet romance on the side. It does contain some violence that is tastefully written. But, does not have any swearing or sex. I really think my daughter would like this series and she is 12. I am off to read book two!

Swim the River by Stephy Smith

Blurb-
Since Amelia ‘Falcon Woman’ Tucker was a small child, she heard the stories of how her mother was Rescued from the River by her father. Rising Wolf held her heart captive for years before he asked for her hand in marriage. Although the river had always called to her, she never knew how much she loved the stalwart Indian until she had to Swim the River to save him.

Tifferz Take-
This takes place in the late 1800's. I was swept back in time when life was much different than it is today. It was refreshing to read about Native Americans. In the story  we watch Falcon Woman and Rising Wolf  fall in love and make a life together. We also get to see how Falcon Woman's brother falls in love as well. I found it very hard to put this story down. Life back then was very hard and we get to see that. We also get a peek about fear of loosing a loved one and death of a loved one. Though we see heartache we also see lots of love and good things.  I think it is great that Ms. Smith did not sugar coat things in the story. This was my first novel by Ms. Smith and I will be checking for more from her. This does not contain any swearing or sex for those who are interested.

Now Trending: YA mythology

 (Guest Post by Leigh Michael)
The love of dystopia, steampunk, vampires, and things that go bump in the night are trends that are still going strong (as they should). Thanks to authors like Rick Riordan, P.C. Cast, and Josephine Angelini, mythology is a YA trend that has also made a name for itself.
Here's 3 reasons why I believe mythology is worth the hype.
1. Writing mythology is two-fold: an impressive imagination and extensive amounts of research. I personally love this combination that's seen in various genres.
2. As we all know... Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades are the three main Greek Gods. Which means, there's potential for story lines in the sea, the underworld, and all of earth's land and sky. Really makes ya question the saying, "the sky's the limit."

3. Sure, there's Greek Mythology (as I just mentioned), but that's just scratching the surface. In fact, mythology is defined as "A collection of myths belonging to a people and addressing their origin, history, deities, ancestors, and heroes." In other words, lots of fun variations, prophecies, and adventures to behold.
So are you ready to dive into mythology? Below are a few books that aspire to be hot buttons in the YA mythology trend. Pick 'em up and become a part of this growing genre. Plus, enter to win 5 of the books below in a YA mythology book giveaway.

A Body in the Attic Emily Dahill CID by Lindsay Downs

Blurb-
Special Agent Emily Dahill, Dakota along with her team of technicians are sent to Master Sergeant Annabelle Carlyle’s Victorian style house for what they think is a simple break-in. What they find however, turns out to be even more ominous. A secret passageway leads to a mysterious gunshot. When the prime suspect is cleared they still have no clue who the shooter is, or why. Could the shooter be the same individual who took a shot at Dakota?

Add into the mix the FBI and their unexpected involvement in the case. Soon they learn the break-in had been a cover-up for a more nefarious crime. One that involves Emily’s nemesis, the brown-haired man, and millions of dollars being sent to terrorists. Will they solve the case before the money disappears forever and more bodies turn up? Not even the inestimable Dakota is sure.

Tifferz Take-

Wow! Ms. Downs has masterminded a story of intrigue and mystery. The plot is great the story moves along quickly. I was not bored and I polished off this story in one sitting. I sure hope that Ms. Downs continues this story. I was happy with the ending but I can see that the author set it up so she could keep going. Please do! I feel like I need to see how things are resolved. I really like how Dakota had his share of action and we get to see things from his prospective. The only things that could have been improved was switching to perspectives was a little choppy. I had to back track and to figure out who it was. I also would have like a better time frame. Overall a very well crafted story that has left a lasting impression on me and I still think about. I will be reading more by Lindsay Downs!

Chronicles of Shilo Manor by Charlene A Wilson

Series Intro:
Chronicles of Shilo Manor

It's their nature - long lives and rebirth. They're from another dimension, one gifted with advance abilities, but they serve in Cornerstone Deep. They're the Wizards of Shilo Manor.

"We are of another plane. Only by ancient covenant do few know our true natures. We walk this world among you, beside you, loving you."

Charlene A. Wilson

Charlene is an author of paranormal suspenseful tales that sweep you away to other dimensions. She weaves magic, lasting love, and intrigue into multi-layered story lines to immerse you into the lives of her characters.

She began writing in her early teens when her vivid dreams stayed with her long after she had them. The characters and worlds were so amazing, she brought them to life through her books. You can meet them now in her series, Chronicles of Shilo Manor, and soon in her series, Aumelan.

She resides in a small community in Arkansas, USA, with her two beautiful daughters, a gray cat, Chester, and a fluffy black dog, KooJo.

Her first novel, Cornerstone Deep, was published in November 2010 by Class Act Books. Her second, Cornerstone Deep Echoes, was released February 2012, also by Class Act Books. The stories keep coming and she keeps typing.

Cornerstone Deep blurb

They outlive the mortals of this realm by thousands of years, and when it comes to love the cruel fact is reinforced. Reincarnation doesn't exist on this plane. They lose their wives to death with no hope of reuniting. Yet they continue to accept others for whatever time they have together. Save for Cole. His love for his last wife still burns in his soul four centuries after her death.

When the service they render to the noblemen of Cornerstone Deep brings him face to face with Anna, something unexpected happens. In a realm of silent souls, hers calls to him. He responds with a kiss—one that joined with the spell of servitude she inhaled, binds her soul.

Breaking ancient covenants, angering the lords, and bringing the gods' wrath upon him, Cole tries desperately to undo his wrong and free his love—despite the determination of the nobleman to keep her.

~ * ~

“My life is a mirage of endless time. But you in this moment engulf me, rivet my mind, encompass my soul.”

Cornerstone Deep Echoes blurb

Mianna’s return heals Cole’s soul and he promises to follow her for the rest of his existence. But the past isn’t what he believes. The fight for her has only begun.

Lord Dressen’s obsession grows as unexpected knowledge is revealed. His search for Mianna has spanned six life times and he won’t give up now. The courts stand behind him. Power pulses through his veins. Determination peaks and not even Cole Shilo can stop him. He will win his prize.

Struggling to stay ahead, Cole’s anger explodes. Nothing is sacred when it comes to keeping his love—not even covenants made with gods. But, through all his efforts, lofty or damned, the truth remains. Will echoes of another life cause him to fail?

~ * ~

“Every breath you take is a song to my soul.”

Say What You Need to Say by J. Adams

Blurb-
Free-spirited Capri Harris has always embraced life to the fullest, but a major health trial brings unexpected changes and her outlook shifts, leaving her with doubts of her worth to any man.

Like the force of a hurricane, Jagger Colby enters Capri's life, weakening her resolve and shaking the walls of self-preservation she has tried so hard to build around her heart.

But Capri knows that once Jagger discovers the truth about her, he will walk away and never look back.

When words mean everything,

say what you need to say.

Tifferz Take-

I found Say What You Need to Say a extremely inspiring read. Capri endures challenges most twenty year old women never even consider ovarian cancer. She also feels like no one would want her. I think this is very realistic. Our hero Jagger is sweet and has a tell it how it is domineer. I liked Jagger instantly but he has his work cut out for himself with Capri. I enjoyed the spiked milk scene. I was cracking up that my kids were like Mom what is so funny? Ms. Adams has skilfully captured my attention with a sweet yet deep and meaningful story. This story does not contain any swearing or sex. It does reference sex but it is all behind closed doors(no detail). I will be reading this short story again! Highly recommend it!

Imperfect Beauty by E.A. West

Blurb-
A visit to the Highland games goes awry for Alasdair Buchanan when his cousin abandons him in the crowd. His guide dog is terrible at describing the sights, but he does a great job of finding the river. Too bad Alasdair has no clue where that river is in relation to his cousin’s apartment.

When Trisha Wright stops to speak with him in her angelic voice, Alasdair is certain his cousin did him a favor by abandoning him. Trisha loves the Scot’s flirtatious ways and basks in his compliments, but she can’t shake the fear that he’ll hate her when he learns the truth about her—a truth everyone can see but him.

Tifferz Take-

Imperfect Beauty is a compelling story that will warm your heart and inspire you. There is a definite spark between Alasdair and Trisha. Ms. West does an impeccable job pulling the reader into the story and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I enjoyed the descriptive details that were included.  I did think we needed more info on Trisha. It seemed most of the dialogue was about Alasdair. This is free of swearing and sex. Overall a delightful read.

Blood Sword (Lost Princess) by L. J. Maisen

blurb-

His Oath...

My loyalty and sword to Rhaetia are true.

I lend my wit and might in fealty to you.

Neither through words, nor actions and deeds, will I dishonor thee.

His Quest...
One by one, the heirs to the Rhaetian throne have fallen, and now the future of the kingdom rests on the champion of the realm—the Blood Sword—finding the missing daughter of the king—the Lost Princess.

Blood Sword (Lost Princess Series Book 1)...

On the island nation of Xa’aia, the Blood Sword is enslaved as a gladiator and forced to fight to entertain the masses. However, to continue the search for the Lost Princess, he will do anything to gain his freedom.

Seeing a chance for escape, Zelayra, whore to Prince Calyl of Xa’aia, purchases the barbarian gladiator—so unlike the usual J’Haran prisoners and her Xa’aian captors in looks. But there is no time to ponder her similarity to the stranger and no time to explore the distant memories and unusual feelings his presence inspires, for she’s not the only one who’s been scheming in the island kingdom.

Tifferz Take-

This is an intriguing read. The pace is good paced read not too fast and not slow. I like
Raulf  he is a guy who is loyal and will kill if needs be to protect  Zelayra or himself. I feel for Zelayra. She has had a hard life. I like how she is quick, crafty and trust no one. Men are not to be trusted in her book for good reason. I did like the unexpected twists in this engaging story. You will be left wanting more. I look forward to reading book two Sword Dancer (Lost Princess Series Book 2)

Blurb~
A huge fan of Jane Austen, Danielle hopes to find her own Mr. Darcy when she leaves Colorado to attend art school in London. Of course she knows it's silly to wish for that, naive even. But she's met enough males who lacked respect for women, a growing trend it seemed. And at nineteen...well.... However, on only her second night there she gets lost and is threatened by a stalker who proves to be immune to her martial arts training. Before she is completely overpowered, she is then saved by Ethan Deveroux.

While Danielle does find the romance she seeks in Ethan, he's no Mr. Darcy. Her hero is held by a spell which fractures their chance at a happy ending. During the day Ethan is closer to mortal than immortal and can date her like any other man. Yet, as the sun sets, the powerful magic of an ancient curse returns and the evil of that spell is revealed. When that magic begins, Danielle's fairytale romance ends because Ethan Deveroux is a vampire.

Blurb~
The Fateful Trilogy continues with Fractured. No, it's not called Fractured because Ethan and Danielle break up, because they don't...in case you were wondering.

They had thought they'd escaped most of the danger surrounding them, when in truth they've made it worse by unintentionally sparking a civil war amongst vampires. Many vampires want to protect them for discovering the cure to the curse binding their kind. However many more want to destroy them for that same discovery.

Ethan's and Danielle's struggle for survival intensifies while they sink deeper into the midst of this danger. The romantic fairytale bliss they once had will soon fracture under the pressure of the curse....

Blurb~
Danielle and Ethan may have solved their problem with vampires, but other magical beings have taken interest in the ones who discovered the cure.

On the run trying to escape a gaggle of evil pixies, a clan of creepy werewolves, a coven or two of wicked witches, and a school of lovely but malicious mermaids, they fight to have a normal life. But that isn't so easy when the only aid they have is from slightly dishonest fairies and flirtatious vampire bodyguards.

This is Danielle and Ethan's happily forever after....

Note from the author: The Fateful Trilogy was Danielle and Ethan’s story, and Forever is the last book in their tale, but this is not the last book in the Fateful Series! I don’t like to clutter up my stories with too much info about side characters, especially when it doesn’t carry along the plot for the two main characters. Even so, my side characters will get the chance to tell you their stories as well! Up next are Max and Nadia’s story, and a real cookbook brought to you by Sophia. There are several more books planned in the “Fateful” world, so please stay tuned....

Blurb~
In Fateful you get to know a vampire named Sophia. She absolutely loves to cook for her mortal friends and that's what this cookbook is all about. This book contains actual recipes that tie in to the series and show you how she slimes the pretty apron she wears. This cookbook includes a variety of recipes, including: finger foods, teatime treats, fairy-influenced fair, and some of Ethan and Danielle's favorites, such as Ethan's triple-layer chocolate cake.

A word or two from Sophia:

Enjoy my dear little mortals! I envy your taste buds.

(This cookbook is part of The Fateful Series and does contain spoilers if you haven’t read the books yet.)

A Christmas Card A Collection of Short Stories by Tara Manderino

blurb-
A collection of short Christmas stories to warm the heart.

Tifferz Take-

I enjoyed these heart felt stories that remind us the true meaning of Christmas. Ms. Manderino stories are like a nice cup of hot chocolate on a cold day! Nice and soothing.  But I enjoyed these stories even when it is nice and warm out. I like to be reminded about helping others all year around. I do wish that some of the stories were a bit longer.

Compromising Kessen by Rachel Van Dyken

Blurb-
The last thing career-driven Kessen Newberry wants is to leave her home in Colorado to spend a Season in London, far away from her job, her friends and the memories of her mother. However, her father, the Earl of Newberry, threatens to disinherit her unless she gets in touch with her British roots. She complies, but has no intention of enjoying the experience.

That is until she meets Christian Vandenbrook, the arrogant and irritatingly handsome future Duke of Albany and her father’s business partner. Unfortunately, Christian hates Americans. And coffee. And apparently, Kessen.

A hatred this passionate can only lead to one thing… marriage.

Caught in the middle of a Regency-inspired nightmare, Kessen and Christian are forced to marry in only one week’s time. Resigned to their fate, the two resolve to give the relationship a chance—which would be much easier if everyone would stop interrupting them every time they found a moment alone.

Tifferz Take-
I am a huge fan of Ms. Van Dyken I have enjoyed every read but this one takes the cake. I think it is my favorite so far. The plot and storyline are solid and had me grinning ear to ear. I was captivated by all the witty banter in this contemporary regency romance. Kessen is such a fun  heroine who is a hopeless romantic at heart. I liked getting to know her and  Christian takes things in stride and has many surprises up his sleeve.
Nick and Duncan were icing on the cake. Having your best friend around to stir up trouble is the best. And boy were they creative!  I did think that Kessen's friend Sammy should have been at the big event with Nick towards the end of the story. I simply Loved this story. Ms. Van Dyken has out done herself. I would love to read Duncan's story hint hint. I look forward to many more stories by Ms. Van Dyken. As always this is a clean read no sex but did have some swearing.

Single-handed by Veronica Blade

blurb-
NOTE: THIS IS A VERY SHORT STORY EQUAL TO APPX 23 PRINTED PAGES

Alex single-handedly takes down a bully. A safer school has its perks, but what else did the years of martial arts training get her? Not a prom date, that’s for sure. With only a few weeks left before the big day, can she stop the tough act long enough for the boy of her dreams to see she’s still just a girl?

Tifferz Take-

Such a cute story! A quick unique young adult read that left me wanting more. Alex is not your typical 18 year old girl. She has a special set of skills!Tommy is a yummy guy! I would have liked a little more about him and his skills.  I want to read about Alex's two friends Laynie and Brittany. Ms. Blade will you be writing those soon? One can only hope! This contains no sex and a few swear words.

Easter Holiday by Nell Dixon

Blurb-

Cornish farmer, Noah Penwarren is sworn off city girls, especially deceitful ones. Posy Carmichael is a city girl through and through. When romantic sparks start to fly will Posy’s secret end their Easter romance before it’s even begun?

Tifferz Take-

Easter Holiday is a fun, sweet and heart warming romance with a few bumps along the way. I liked Noah right off the bat. He is so real and a good guy. Posy is a city girl on her first camping trip.  I was laughing so hard when Posy was wearing high heels to go camping. This is a clean romance filled with just kissing and no swearing. I only wish Ms. Dixon would write book two. I want to see how things  play out with Posy and Noah. We are left with a happy ending but I would like more!

Intangible by J. Meyers

blurb-
Twins Sera and Luke Raine have a well-kept secret--she heals with a touch of her hand, he sees the future. All their lives they've helped those in need on the sly. They've always thought of their abilities as being a gift.

Then Luke has a vision that Sera is killed. That gift they've always cherished begins to feel an awful lot like a curse. Because the thing about Luke's ability? He's always right.

And he can't do anything about it.

Tifferz Take-
Intangible is a fantastic read. I could not and would not put it down. I think the twin power thing is really cool and how the powers work. I also like that other people are gifted. I want one of Frey's markers. Ms. Meyer's has weaved a magical story. The plot, pace and descriptions enchanting. I want more J. Meyers. It will be interesting to see how things go in book two. I felt Ms. Meyer's did a excellent job wrapping things up but still managed to keep you thinking what will happen next. If you like a paranormal read this is a must read!!! I can't seem to stop thinking about Luke, Sera, Jonas and Frey. This is a clean read no sex but does contain a handful of swear words. I am eagerly looking for book two.
