Sins Of The Mother by Tara Hyland

blurb:
From the author of Daughters of Fortune comes a sweeping family drama that follows a mother and daughter through the poverty of post-WWII Ireland and London and into the glamour of 1950s Hollywood and beyond, revealing the ways in which family ties can never be broken.
Tara Hyland is beloved by readers for her exquisite talent at weaving family sagas that journey through the rocky roads of secrets, lies, and betrayals, only to show that no challenge, no matter how difficult, can ever truly sever the bonds of love.

The novel opens in 1946, when Franny Healy is a beautiful and spirited teenager living in the poverty of County Cork, Ireland. Franny wants nothing more than to escape to the excitement of London. But when she discovers she is pregnant, her boyfriend abandons her. Undeterred, Franny flees to the city, where she finds work as a nightclub performer. She shines onstage and is soon propelled into a life she’s only dreamed of, filled with Hollywood stars, glamorous parties, furs and fashion, plus a new husband—who must never know of the daughter she left behind in County Cork with her mother.

Tifferz Take:

Okay guys I am now a fan of Tara Hyland. Man this woman can tell a story that keeps you on your toes. The story and characters are well developed and strong. I was hooked in the first few chapters. I did not want to put this book down. I was surprised at the unexpected twist and turns and was never expecting this book to end how it did. Sins Of The Mother contains abandonment, crime, abuse, love, romance, some bitterness and much more. This book does contain a few detailed sex scenes. You can easily graze over these if you dont care for that. I highly recommend this book and will read this story again. I love when a story stick with you and this one does.

This was an arc copy.

After the Party by Lisa Jewell

Blurb:

Eleven years ago, Jem Catterick and Ralph McLeary fell deeply in love. They thought it would be forever, that they’d found their happy ending. As everyone agreed, they were the perfect couple. Then two became four, and an apartment became a house. Romantic nights out became sleepless nights in. And they soon found that life wasn’t quite so simple anymore. But through it all, Jem and Ralph still loved each other. Of course they did.

Now Jem is back at work part-time as a talent agent. Ralph, a successful painter, is struggling to come up with new, hopefully groundbreaking, work for his upcoming show. But the unimaginable has happened. Two people who were so right together are starting to drift apart And in the chaos of family life, Jem feels like she’s losing herself, while Ralph, stuck on the sidelines, feels like he’s lost his muse altogether. Something has to change. As they try to find a way back to each other, back to what they once had, they both become momentarily distracted—but maybe it’s not too late to recapture happily ever after…

Tifferz Take:
First I love the cover of this book! I also was so thrilled to read this book after reading the blurb! Lisa's writing is simply smashing. I read this chick lit summer romance in one sitting. I had to find out how things turned out for Ralph and Jem. I think Lisa did an awesome job with Ralph and I liked getting a look into his thoughts.
I did think that some of the choices that Ralph and Jem made were not the best. But I guess that makes things more interesting. This is a very witty story that does contain some language and some sex (not detailed) while not married. The only problem I had with this story is that things were resolved a little to quickly for me. This was my first book by Lisa and I did not know that it was a sequel to Ralph's Party. I had no problem reading and following this story, so it is a great stand alone read, but I may have to pick up the prequel Ralph's Party. I do recommend this to those who like romance and chick lit.

I recieved an arc copy.
